There was no day quite like the 28th of August for Izuku and Izumi Yagi.
„It's not gonna happen, kid. You're not going to develop a quirk."
That was all it took for their world to be shaken beyond repair.
That was all it took for Inko to disregard her son as a lost cause, not feeling anything besides pity for the boy. The children's father, Toshinori, almost lost his hope too.
If simply for his own past self, quirkless or not, he promised himself not to allow that to bring his son down.
He was going to regret not keeping this promise more than anything.

That same evening, when Toshinori was tucking Izumi into bed, the girl started asking the questions her parents didn't want to think about.
„Daddy, can he still be a hero?"
Izumi had gained a powerful Telekineses quirk a few weeks ago and her career as a hero was as secure as it could be.
"I- I don't know sweetheart. But you'll have to be more careful playing with Izuku from now on, okay? He's more delicate than you and Katsuki."
Izumi's eyes widened, she felt like crying. She didn't want her brother to get hurt, trying to be something he couldn't.
So she laid there, wide awake with a wandering mind, going to the darkest places a 4-year-old could think about.
"Will he still try to become a hero?"
"Will he get hurt as a hero?"
"Would it kill him?"
"Could I protect him?"
"How do quirkless people live?"
"On TV they said that the quirkless were less evolved, does that mean Izuku is less evolved than me?"
"Am I better than Izuku?"
That day was the real start of Izumi's life.
_____
If you asked Izuku, why he still believed that he could be a hero, he'd mumble something about All Might and never giving up, but truly, he knew he was lying to himself.
After all, the "truth" was beaten, kicked and exploded into him, the "truth" that quirkless people were below those with quirks.
It disgusted him.
With every new bruise, every test that was graded unfairly, every hateful comment, his resentment for the future heroes grew.
They presented themselves as heroes. Righteous people who will help others and save those in need of saving.
What a joke.
They were nothing short of villains, pushing others down left and right, not a care in the world as no one ever told them to stop. Why would they? After all, both Kacchan and Izumi were as good as accepted into U.A. If anyone were to tell them to stop, they'd lose their job or position at the school faster than they could say "Quirk."
Izuku truly hated them. He wished for nothing more than the two bullies to just vanish into thin air, leaving him alone forever.
"Okay class, today, on the Day of Heroism, we are having a discussion on morality" The teacher's voice ripped Izuku from his phone, as he was reading about the latest hero scandals. "Let's start easy, who are bad people?"
Izuku almost snorted out loud. A question like that? Easy? Please, the world isn't that black and white.
"Izumi, would you mind answering that?"
"Villains, duh? Villains are bad, Heroes are good. That's kindergartner stuff, sensei."
He wanted to cry and laugh at the same time. His sister really thought all heroes were good when Endeavor was the no. 2? Did she not have a problem with his "civilian sacrifices" or did she simply not care?
"Hell yeah, that's why we are becoming ones! We'll be the fucking best, better than fucking Hawks or Endeavor! We'll even surpass fucking All MIght!"
Kacchan didn't seem to have a problem with it, but hey, he's on a safe path to becoming a second "Fire Killer" as Enji Todoroki was dubbed in some Forums. Would he be called the "bomb killer"?
"Yes, that's a very good answer, Izumi." The teacher turned to Izuku, a malicious twinkle in his eyes, "Izuku, what do you think?"
Oh. So he wanted to give the bullies a reason to beat him up.
"We-well, um, I think, uh... Iz-Izumi was right?"
A sigh from his teacher "You were supposed to find your own opinion, not just leach off of your sister."
"She just made a very good point" No, she didn't but he didn't want them to hurt him.
"Fucking Deku, too fucking stupid for an opinion!" Kacchan yelled, some other kids were laughing.
Izuku decided to say fuck it, and just actually say what he was thinking for once. His teacher already dug him a hole, why not dig deeper.
"Actually, no, her point was not good. Humans are far more nuanced than that and some heroes abuse their powers, whereas some villains are just trying to feed themself and their families. Heroes are playing Judge, Jury and Executioner at once, which derails the Justice system and-"
"Shut the fuck up, useless fucking Deku!"
"You think your opinion is worth anything?"
"You think you're better than Izumi?"
"Every breath you take is wasted air, fucking piece of shit!"
"Just take a swan dive off the roof you fucking moron!"
Kacchan and Izumi yelled at Izuku at the same time, interrupting each other without any care, while the poor boy shrunk in his seat.
"This will go on your record Izuku, I hope you'll learn to be more respectful towards your classmates. Now, now, settle down everybody, we have a lesson to finish!"
Izuku felt the glares of his bullies burning into him, as he wished to just be able to outrun them and get home, to the safety of his own room.
