We all sit in silence on the train. Me and Tobias both try to keep our distances from Marcus who sits next to Peter. I sit holding hands with Connor, and think of what has just happened. I have seen innocent people die, Caleb, Tris and Dwayne have all seen their parents get killed. As for me I have seen my friends become murderers. And I myself have become a murderer tonight. 7 people I have killed in the space of one night. The voice plays on repeat in my head. 'Killing is never right' I grip Connor's hand tighter. And see Tobias hug Tris. "I have killed people tonight." I simply say with a sick feeling.
Connor sits up. "So have I Ruby." He says quietly.
"Does that make me a bad person? Because I don't even know who I am anymore." I ask him.
"Nope it doesn't. You killed those people for the right reasons. You are still the girl who is brave and resilient. The girl who I want to be with no matter what." He says. He draws me in with a kiss. "I think I might be falling in love with you Ruby." He says underneath his breath. I smile legitimately.
"I think I may be feeling the same way about you too." I say before we kiss again. He puts his arm around my shoulders and he leans back. "Now get some sleep. Tomorrow is going to be a long day." He says. I put my head to his chest and listen to his beating heart. I am scared of what tomorrow will bring to us, I am scared of seeing the people I killed in my dreams, I am scared of losing my friends and being defined by what I have done. But I have faith in Tobias, Tris and Connor and where ever we will end up tomorrow, next week or next year we will take a breath and jump.
I'm Ruby Eaton a Divergent and a fighter and I'll be ready to face another day.
THE END.
