Elyza Austin
I am a very sarcastic person. I've been told that a lot of times. So just don't trust me when I say that I had a very nice time in the Camaro with a guy I didn't even know. He still had his goofy rainbow scarf on and it bothered me. The issue was gone, just take it off already. He kept glancing over at me every couple of minutes. I knew what he was thinking. He was obviously thinking, what is wrong with her arm? What's wrong with her? Even more, what's wrong with me?
I crossed my arms, and then crossed my legs. I realized I was still wearing the stupid floral dress. I tugged it over my head and tossed into the back seat. I tucked my legs underneath me and brushed cold ash from my pants and t-shirt.
"Are you okay?" he asked. I closed my eyes. I had been nice and friendly for long enough.
"You know what, I really don't think so." I snapped.
"O...kay?" he shifted in his seat. We turned on a nicely paved road. "Do you want it to talk about it?" he asked uncertainly. I could tell he was surprised at my sudden personality change.
"No, I don't think you'd understand." I said. I knew he didn't either. He didn't get pounded in the back with a really really hot tiny little rock and then accidently flood the whole stinkin bathroom! All the while the school is on fire and it feels like the water is getting literally dried out of your skin. Yeah I don't think so.
"You'd be surprised." he said. His green eyes jerked to my arm. His eyes weren't always green, when I first saw him, they were bright red. The thought made me think of the weird stone that was stuck at the base of my throat. His eyes flicked to my neck and I scowled at him. He looked back at the road.
"I don't get surprised very easily." I said. This was a complete lie. I took a deep breath and tried to calm myself. "I'm sorry. It's just...a lot has happened today." I said.
"I know what you mean." he said. I could tell he meant it too. "We're here." I looked up at the huge mansion that was tucked away into a line of trees.
"Whoa." I said. "I didn't know he lived here! Where did he get the money?" I asked, more to myself then to the boy next to me, but he answered anyways.
"He didn't get the money." he said and turned off the car. "Have you talked to Alex lately?" I shook my head.
"My coming is a surprise. His birthday is tomorrow and I haven't seen him over three months." I explained. "Why?" he sat there not looking at me.
"He, Alex hasn't been doing very well. His parents were killed in a car accident and then his aunt and uncle left him to pretty much fend for himself." he said. "Alex has been moved around a lot, so..."
My stomach dropped. "Are you serious?" I whispered.
"Yeah." he said and looked at me. Something wet smacked him in the face and rolled down his cheek. Another one hit him on the shirt. I didn't say anything; Alex's parents had been good friends of mine. I pressed my forehead against the window. Tears overflowed and fell down my cheeks.
"Elyza!" I turned around, wiping a hand under my eyes. I didn't want him to see how much of a wuss I was.
"What?" I asked shakily. I blinked. He was completely soaked. Rain fell from the roof of the car. Everything was completely wet. My eyes widened. Well everything but me.
"Rain." he said. "In the car." I got out and looked at the hood of the car. It looked fine; what's more, it wasn't even raining outside. The door opened and my stranger friend got out.
"It might have been raining when we got here." I said, not even believing myself. Heck, if I could flood the bathroom without the water on, making it rain in a car should be no problem. He didn't look like he believed it either.
