After Josh got a warning, he dropped us off at the house and went home. We all just stood at the front of the house for a few moments. The same question on all of our minds. One we ask every time we step foot on this property.

Is it really worth it? To go into this place and live here? It is all...worth it?

Then we look at each other.

Three siblings.

One has a bandage on his head, and childhood trauma that will he'll carry with him forever. But also a feeling that only a child could truly have, a peace of mind knowing that heros are real.

One has physical, mental, emotional scars that will affect her daily. The realization of being weak, powerless, and helpless is something she'll never forget. It will haunt her.

And one has a guilt-ridden conscious that may eat away at his mind for a few nights. To be so close yet miles behind crushing him in ways he couldn't imagine.

But it's all we truly had. And we would do everything in their power to keep it safe. Keep Jamie safe, keep Ayana safe, keep Evan safe.

So we walked to the door and went inside.

A loud burb was heard as they walked through the door. It was from Clyde, who was hitting his stomach and lounging in his recliner. He drowned down his beer while watching some sport channel. His beer belly showed under his white wife-beater.

Oh the irony.

Clyde Richard was our provider, not our dad. He was a tall overweight white man who fosters us. A rude man really but at least he gets the bills paid.

"Well look who finally decided to come on home." May, his wife said with a glare. Her skinny frame leaned against the wall as she scrutinized us. A snarl was plastered on her face.

"We were at the hospital, maybe if you checked your messages you'd see." Evan said, you could tell he was trying to restrain himself from saying something rude. She narrowed her eyes at him but soon brushed it off.

She didn't care.

"Better not have come in here with bills!" Clyde grunted from the living room. Evan fumed and I couldn't hold him back as he stalked over to him.

"If you'd open your eyes maybe you'd see that Jamie has a flipping bandage on his head. Ayana is still slightly shaking and her eyes are screaming fear. I look like I aged three years and all you can say to that is don't bring in bills? Man screw you!" Evan was blowing up. Clyde got up fast and soon they were both in each others faces. Sizing one another up. Evan was almost the same height as Clyde, and due to his swimming his shoulders were more broad and built up than Clydes.

Evans jaw twitched and his fists were shaking.

Clyde held a calm expression but a sneer was slowly slipping through. The room was quiet except for the TV playing in the background.

But like always, Evan backed off.

He stormed out of the room into his own. Clyde went back to sitting in his chair with a smug look on his face. I sighed and walked to my room.

I laid down in my bed and just closed my eyes. Images of the gun, Jamie, everything just flooded my mind. I pounded the pillow next to me as the memories rushed around my head.

I'm weak. What kind if person can't even protect a small child? These thoughts ran rampant and I could feel angry tears trying to force their way out.
