The alarm clock was ringing immensely throughout the whole apartment, but I didn't seem to be bothered by it. I woke up hours before, I couldn't sleep, but for me that wasn't new. I was lying on my bed, steering at the sealing and thinking about how nice it will be if I repaint the room, honestly the baize colour was somewhat boring. "Green"- I thought, "It will fit nicely, comparing to the fact that I'm surrounded by it. "My tinny apartment was a part of a huge building, where all international people were living. We had a huge garden in front, with a beautiful fountain and a playground, and massive cherry tree. It made a magnificent view. They were so nice to give me this place, until I figure out my own living arrangement. However being lazy as I'm, I haven't even looked for another option.
Now the ringing became irritating so I turned it off and sat on my bed.
"Also I should change my sheets" They were really getting dirty.
And with that I got up, walked on the cold floor up to the bathroom, looked at the mirror and sight. But because I was already late I couldn't do anything about that. My orange hot mess of a hair, was in docile, so I placed into a bun, and washed my freckled face with a splash of water. Ran back to the room and grabbed some pair of jeans and a plane tee-shirt, knowing I will change into my scrubs when I'm in the infirmary. At least I had to remember to take my white coat, which had my name on it: Dr. Roselyn Walsh dr.vet.med.Since I moved from London I became way relaxes about my appearance, if my mum would have seen me like this, only God could help me. I still remember how devastated she was when I said I'm moving across the continent to China.
"Darling are you sure this is a good idea, I mean sure China is a wonderful place but it is so far"- mum kept telling me, while I was packing and ignoring her. „Mum I'm old enough to make my own decisions, I want to go, and I will." I felt how she rolled her eyes behind my back. „At least, it's only for a year, and then I'm back" I faced her and hold my arms up, expressing that it wasn't a big deal. She didn't both that, but in silence she helped me pack.I sat in my car, and started to drive to the Panda breeding resource base, which was situated at this province place called Chengdu, in south west of Chine. I always wanted to work with endangered animal, and while I was studying veterinary medicine back in London, I always directed myself to the studies of wild and endangered species. So when I got the call to work here, I was honoured. Also came in the right time, because one more day at home, probably would have suffocated me.
Entering the Centre, I was greeted by our lovely assistant, who happened to be American. She was a typical, how do they call it „girl next door", but with a scent of spice.
"Hey Rose, you look dashing as always " she looked at me with a grin smile on her face " did you try this time, or the mirror just ran away again"
"Ha Emily, nice one " I passed her by and walked to the changing room, but she ran after me, through the door like a sprinter and sat on a chair next to the lockers. She was tall and blond, like every man's dream. She was positive; however she tended to always make a drama about the little things, which she usually forgets hours later. Because of here good looks, and charming smile, she had many guys on here hand. Then Monday, I listened to her funny miss-matched dates. How that guy was great looking but boring, or that other one who bought her roses but ditched her for a meeting. But don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it; at least something interesting was happening in this town. And this Monday was no different.Changing in to my clean scrubs I faced Emily" So how was your night with that guy, I can't remember his name" I asked her.
" Oh dear lord he was boring, so boring, I mean he kept talking about some numbers and charts, and I just kept looking at him hoping that at least the sex will be good"
" So was it?"
" Of course not, Rose!, he is a bloody dam bookkeeper"
I could help but laugh, she was always this dramatic, and at least some one was having fun. She held her head in her palms, smiling a bit, and then she lifted her head up
" He was so bad Rose so bad, and I thought because he was British he will be amazing, but I was wrong, you guys I don't know what are you doing" she gestured me a frown face and I just started to laugh even more.
„O Emily you haven't met us all, I thing British are quite good in bed"
„well I don't know but no date number two for him" she said getting up from the chair. I just finished getting on my white coat. „I assume you stayed all weekend at home?" Emily stands in front of me, with here arms crossed on her chest. Knowing that she will look at me, with a judging expression any way: „Yes I did, I read a good book though", I said with the biggest smile I was able to make. She just shakes her head in disbelief, and I knew exactly what was she thinking you never have fun Roes. Quickly changing the subject before the lecture:" Emily do we have coffee" Her face changed, and I was safe, for now.
" Yah sure I will go grab us some, you want milk, I always forget" She pushes a side her lashes blond hair. „No milk, thank you"She exits the room, while I was tying my shoes and I was about to go out when she appeared again.
„Rose you remember that today you have that meeting about some machines or something... " Emily so sweet but so clueless sometimes,
" Yes I do remember, and it is about our new surgery equipment" I checked my watch to see the time, planning in my head what I have to do today. Emily briefly smiled and nodes in approval, and she left the room. I was alone with my thoughts, and a plan to survive today's day, step by step they always say.It was all ready 9am, and was about to go and check out my boys. They were my little pandas that were my responsibility to take care off, during their first years. There were three of them, and all were male. Usually very prone to competing with one another, but still adorable. One was named Jim, he was the oldest and the dominant one in the group, the following was Tim, who was born with a heart problem. Luckily he made it up to now, and the last one was little Alex. When he was born, I didn't thought he will make it because he was really small, below average. He had to take a number of operations, but he was strong during all of them, I sometimes call him my little fighter. It makes my heart warm when I see him running around, so small but yet. If he is able to do it, then everyone can, no matter the problem, or species. A Panda is a type of a bear, and it can be aggressive if felt endangered. So a protocol had to be followed when examining them and approaching. Wearing this blue paper bags, as I called them was essential, not to contaminate them with any pathogen organism from outside. Our primary goal is to save the pandas from extinction, and perhaps get them back to the wild. Every doctor had its own little group of them, so that each panda gets exact medication that it needed. I watched my boys being born, looking like little rats. Also I gave them Western names, because usually this centre has Asian doctors, but I thought it will be nice to have something different. I treated them as my babies, regardless the fact I was supposed to keep my emotional distance, or the fact that I'm not their actual mother. I love my job, it has a certain calmness and also an excitement.
When I was done with checking, it was all ready 11am, and the meeting with a company was scheduled at 11:30. I had some time to prepare; originally I wasn't supposed to have it, because I was new. But no one had free time, so I agreed to take it. I don't understand how those machines work, but do we need them, yes. The other day my ultrasound wasn't working, and without it I'm not able to check Tim's heart. Lost in my own world I suddenly crashed into someone.
"Sorry, I want looking" Immediately apologising, not even look at the person.
