The Potter Twins - Before Hogwarts

Chapter 1

On that fateful night, those many years ago, when Voldemort attacked James and Lily Potter, leaving their twins orphaned and in need of a new home. Snape arrived in Godric's Hollow shortly after the initial attack. He was grief stricken at the sight he was faced with, Lily the love of his life dead, lifeless on the ground. She had given her life to protect her children, and Snape knew right then and there he would give his own life to protect Lily's children as well.

He knew very well that Dumbledore had plans for Harry, he was going to go live with the vile, muggle, Dursley's. But nowhere in his plans had he mentioned where Sarah was going to live, Snape assumed that the little girl had simply slipped his mind. Snape decided that he couldn't bear the thought that he wouldn't see either of the twins until they were 11 and made their way to Hogwarts. So before Dumbledore could realize what he had forgotten, Snape took little Sarah into his arms and disapparated. Leaving Harry completely alone in that house, soon to be taken to his new home for the next 10 years.

Hagrid would soon arrive at Godric's Hollow to retrieve Harry, and take him to Number 4 Privet Drive to live with the Dursleys. Since he hadn't received any instruction from Dumbledore about Sarah, he had just assumed that her life had been lost to You-know-who. Hagrid took Harry to the Dursleys as Dumbledore had asked of him. Meanwhile Snape was trying to figure out what he was supposed to do with this screaming bundle in his arms.

Snape had no idea how to handle children, he couldn't just issue Sarah a detention. After some thought he decided that she could possibly benefit from a familiar face, and decided to owl Remus Lupin.

Dear Remus Lupin,

It seems that I have come into possession of a young Sarah Potter. I am under the impression that you have been close to the Potter family, and I am sure you heard of the dire circumstance that resulted in their early death. Dumbledore already had plans for Harry's new home, he has gone to live with the muggle family, the Dursleys I believe. But Dumbledore had no plans for Sarah, and I couldn't stand the idea of leaving her in that dreadful house, so I took it upon myself to take her away from there. The child and I are currently staying in a room at the leaky cauldron, staying out of sight. She won't stop crying, I placed silencing charms on the room so people don't come asking questions. I am unable to get her to stop. If it isn't too much to ask could you come see Sarah, and try to get her to stop.

Severus Snape

Snape slipped the letter into the envelope and sent it with his owl. He hoped that it wouldn't be long before either Lupin owled him back, or simply showed up. Sarah had cried herself to sleep at this point and Snape felt he should inform Tom of the possible visitor. After placing protection charms around the sleeping child he made his way downstairs, where the general wizarding population was celebrating the death of Voldemort. Snape made his way over to Tom.

"Severus, what can I do for you on this beautiful evening," Tom said joyously.

"Tonight has not been joyous, Lily and James Potter were killed, and their children are now orphans. I merely came down to inform you, I do not wish for anyone to disturb me. The only visitor I permit knocking on my door is Remus Lupin. Anyone else who dares knock on my door shall face an unlucky fate," Snape snarled before abruptly turning and walking back up the stairs to his room.

Gently closing the door behind him, despite his obvious anger, Snape made his way over to the bed in the room. Sarah was currently sleeping, fitfully, in the middle of the bed. He hated the majority of the children that attended Hogwarts, but despite this, the little girl on the bed had stolen his heart, just like her mother.

Snape soon found himself talking to a sleeping Sarah, "I loved her, your mother you know. She was and will remain the love of my life. And you, you little thing are growing on me, I know I cannot raise you myself, but I promise that I will always make an effort to be there for you. In our mere hours together you have grown to mean a great deal to me."
