Silence is either comforting or nerve-wracking, which it is depends on who you share the silence with.

"Adain! Get off of him!" My screams seemed to echo off the walls as I tried to pull him away from his twin but the difference in strength was obvious as the livid boy shoved me away before continuing to hit away at his brother.
Somehow, the argument had become violent these past few minutes. Adain's hurt sprouted into anger before he attacked his twin, who had been watching his brother yell at me with a look of pride before he was tackled to the ground.
I was screaming, hoping someone would hear and bring a teacher as I continued to try to pull them away from each other. I did not understand why they were fighting, isn't it me whom they are mad at? Shouldn't I be the one taking hits?
A stray punch landed on my cheek pushing me back a few steps from the pain. My worry began to fade as annoyance took over me, "I said stop you idiots!" I yelled before running forward and bringing the two to the ground under me. "If you're mad then hit me."
"Why would I hit you when I can hit his ugly face." Avary huffed out, his chest rising and falling from the fight.
Hearing this, Adain turned back towards his brother with his fist raised, about to continue the fight but was stopped by my hand wrapping around his wrist. "Are you deaf? I said stop it."
"Why? Don't want me hurting your favorite face?" Adain scoffed, pulling his wrist away as he glared at me.
Not backing down, I sent him a glare of my own, "You two literally have the same face." I deadpanned, lowering my hand.
"That's an insult and I'm taking it personally." I bit my lip to hold back a laugh at Avary's muttered words. Thankfully, the tension in the air seemed to have lowered slightly as the adrilane from the fight eased.
The sound of footsteps growing closer bought our attention to the stair rail just as a teacher stepped in, a look of panic on her face before it morphed into disappointment at our position. Shaking her head, she walked closer and pulled us away from each other before placing her hands on her hips, "I hope you three have an explanation for why there were screams coming from you three along with why your faces are bruised and scratched up."
Before I could even think of an answer, the twins began to talk over each other in an attempt to place the blame on each other. Letting out a sigh, I rubbed my temples trying to smooth the headache I felt growing.
"Hey, hey, enough!" The teacher scowled walking over and pulling to two apart just as their fight was about to get physical again. "I don't know what happened or who started this but all three of you are coming with me to the principal's office."
She held Adain and Avary's hands as she dragged them to the office, I followed behind the three closely with my mouth closed unlike them who were still arguing with each other.
By the time we reached the office, you could tell how annoyed the teacher was with the pair. Knocking on the door, she waited for an invitation inside before opening the door and pulling the twins in— who, by the way, were still bickering.
"Boys!" The principal's voice boomed, loud enough to capture everyone's attention followed by their silence. "How about you all explain why you're here?"
I chewed on my lip as I played with my fingers out of nervousness. The principal was normally a sweet old man but that doesn't mean he wasn't scary when he wanted to be.
I glanced at the twins out of the corner of my eye hoping one of them would speak up only to find the two of them looking in my direction. So now they want to be silent.
"I found them in a physical acceleration. I was teaching when I heard yelling, probably from that one since he was trying to break them up." Her index finger pointed in my direction as she explained but her eyes were placed on her watch. "I have to get back to my students now."
The principal waved her off when she went in for a bow, dismissing the woman before turning back to the three of us. "Now, would anyone like to explain their reason for resorting to violence, knowing fully well it's against the school code."
Once more, the room went silent as the twins and I waited for one someone other than themself to explain the situation.
Seconds of silence went by before the older man let out a disappointed sigh, "We'll I can't force you to explain. However, you know the rules, I have to contact your guardians. Such a shame since the school year is nearly at its end."
Looking away from us, he began to type on his computer, likely pulling up our files. I looked over at the twins with a look of panic, already knowing my step-mother would catch wind of this and never let me live it down.
My eyes went from the twins and back to the principal when I heard him pick up his phone.. "Wait!"
The plea slipped out before I could even think of it, "I apologize for breaking the school rules. It was a small argument that just escalated my mistake. The school day is nearly over, I-I could mop the bathrooms or clean the classroom after school. Can't we solve this without contacting parents?"
My voice cracked halfway through my statement yet I paid it no attention as I kept my focus on the principal, whose finger paused just before hitting any numbers.
I guess that was the words he wanted to hear because the old man smiled as he put his phone back in its place, "Yes, I was hoping we can solve this without parents as well. You three are good children and none of you have ever gotten in serious trouble before so I am willing to let this incident go." The three of us let out small breaths of relief at the principal's words. "Only if you apologize to each other and work as a team to clean the gym. You have the rest of the day until dismissal, I want the floors swept and mopped, the balls put away in their proper places, the nets wrapped, as much as you three can do in your limited time. The cleaning supplies are in the storage room three doors to the right of the gym entrance."
After telling us where we could find the supplies we were dismissed from the room. The walk to the gym as one that seemed longer than normal as it was filled with pin dropping silence. Even as we grabbed the cleaning supplies and walked into the gym, none of us spoke a word.
Clutching the broom that was in my hands, I watched with a heart heavy in guilt as the twins cleaned the area's on the opposite side of the gym, the two would occasionally meet eyes and glare before turning and continuing their work.
After nearly 20 minutes of this, I grew annoyed and slammed down my broom gaining both of their attention. Clenching my hands, I forced myself to look at the two before saying the words I'm sure neither wanted to hear at the moment,
"We need to talk."
