Baylee's POV

"Perfect", I said, marveling at my light pink roller skates. I had just finished polishing them. My reflection bounced off one of the skates. Blowing an air kiss to my reflection, I set my rag down and looked in the mirror.

My dirty blonde hair rested on my shoulders. As I started messing with my bangs, my mom called me upstairs for dinner.

"Coming", I yelled back, focused on the mirror.

The smell of pizza wavered through the house.

"Smells delicious", I said, my face hanging over the bubbling cheese.

My mom came out from her bedroom with a super cute shirt.

"Here you go honey", she said, handing me the green, flowing shirt.

I took the present from her hand, melting at how soft it was.

"Thank you", I said with excitement in my voice.

After dinner I went to go try my new shirt on. It fit me perfectly.

My Mom took one look at me, and her eyes widened.

"Honey, you look beautiful", she claimed with open arms.

I walked towards her to give her a hug. My Mom always gave me the best hugs. They were so warm and comforting.

I was getting ready to leave for the roller skating rink. My Mom was putting on her jacket while I ran downstairs to grab my roller skates.

The air outside was crisp with a light breeze. I never liked cold winter days. I was more of a Summer type. But I hadn't the time to complain. The contest was going to start in 13 minutes, and my Mom and I weren't even in the car yet.

My car door slammed as my Mom pulled out of the driveway.

The bright lights from the city shined through the window. In the distance you could hear car horns going off, and police sirens fading.

As soon as we parked in front of the roller rink, my two best friends, Zoe and Breeze, ran up to me.

Zoe had her cheetah print skates in her hand, while Breeze had her teal colored skates under her arm.

"So, are you excited for the contest", said Zoe.

I nodded my head and opened the door to the rink.

People were crowding around, trying to find a place to sit. Luckily, Breeze, Zoe and I jumped at an opportunity of filling an empty seat next to the bathrooms. Actually, they were in the bathroom. We had to put our skates on in the stalls.

"5 minutes until show time", said a booming voice over the speaker.

We rolled out of the bathroom and towards the edge of the rink. We watched and marveled at professionals performing stunts on the stage.

"Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, we welcome you to the 2015 Roller Skating Competition!"

The crowd went wild. People whistling, kids cheering, and contestants shaking.

First up was Ally Nova. She was amazing. She skated backwards, jumped, and sped around the rink.

Next were twin brothers. Sean and Gabriel. They could skate backwards and do backflips over each other without a single scratch on them. I thought they had 1st place locked up.

After 1 more act, I would be next. I was sweating like crazy.

I can't do this, I can't do this.

Breeze could see how nervous I was. She gently set her hand on my shoulder. I took a deep breath in, ready for my name to be called.

"And next we have, Baylee Smith!"

I skated on to the rink. The music came on, and I felt like I couldn't move. I started by taking a glide across the rink. The music played in my head....

So I put my hands up, their playing my song, I know I'm gonna be ok. Yeah, yeah, oh yeah, it's a party in the USA.

I looked over at Zoe and Breeze. My mind was racing. I felt like everybody's eyes were burning into my soul.

I lifted one of my skates, no confidence in me at all, and....
