Harry has got one specific opinion about Salazar's 'legacy'. That it is filthy - literally - and it smells like gray water.

Thankfully, when he asked for a staircase, after having opened the sink in the girl's bathroom with parseltongue, he made one appear.
He couldn't risk it, to just jump into the hole on the floor like that. It was a shot in the dark. Very dangerous.

Now he's inside the Chamber itself.
Which is nothing impressive, all things considered.

There are lots of tall pillars of marble, with snakes engraved on them. The floor is covered in stones... oh, and there's a head of a man with a beard at the end of the long hall.

That must be Salazar Slytherin.

'Honestly' thinks Harry. 'How narcissistic of him, to make a self portrait. As if his heir isn't arrogant and self richeous enough.'

And now, for that basilisk...

Yup. Harry has no idea how to make the snake appear. What will he say anyway? 'Come out because I want to kill you?' Sounds insensitive.

Okay, deep breaths... He needs the creature to trust him, first. He puts the sword down, no matter how much of a death wish it seems like. He must handle this very - very -  delicately. He inhales once more. Then he speaks the snake language, for the first time after years.

'Hey. Umm... I know you're here, somewhere. I may not be your master, but... I speak the tongue too. Could you please come out?'

He hears a slither. He doesn't see where it comes from.

'Open the sstatue then, sspeaker, if you wish to ssee me.'

Right. Okay. How the hell does he do that, again?

'Οpen sesame', I guess?' He tries, even though it sounds a tad embarrassing. He feels embarrassed himself, to be accurate.

He is easily caught off guard when it actually works and the mouth of the statue opens wide, only to reveal darkness.

No, wait. Not darkness.

He sees a pair of glowing eyes. And then a triangular head. And scales. Lots of gray and silver scales. And then a twelve meter snake slithers towards the light.

'You are not my masster, yess?' It says, eyes lightened with genuine interest.

Harry is left with eyes wide and mouth open, just staring at the magnificent beast. 'Umm, no. Sorry for the disappointment.'

'It'ss alright. What iss your name then, little one?'

'Harry. Harry Potter.'

The basilisk moves closer. Her tongue almost touches the boy's nose. She looks at him dead in the eye.

He shuts his own eyes on instinct.

'Do not worry.' He hears her saying. 'I cannot petrify those who can speak to me.'

'Oh.' He peaks one eye open, after the other.

'I'm Reisha.' She introduces herself. Her voice is quite pleasant to the ear, despite her terrifying size.

'Pleased to meet you.' He replies.

'I see you have thrown away your weapon.' She observes quietly.

Harry swallows.  He is pretty sure he is sweating. 'I - I'm sorry, but... I cannot allow you to petrify any of my classmates.'

He thinks he hears her sigh. 'I merely follow orders, little one. I obey the heir.'
