You ran up the pathway and banged on Ben’s front door, breathing heavily. A tired looking Ben opened the door and you walked straight inside without saying a word. “Come in, Y/N.” Ben muttered this under his breath as he closed the door behind you and leaning against the door. You shot him daggers. “This is no time to be funny, Tennyson. I need your help.”
Ben crossed his arms across his chest and gave a smug smile. “And what could Y/N L/N possibly need my help with?” Frustration was bubbling up inside you at the fact that Ben wasn’t taking anything seriously. You stormed up to him and grabbed the collars of his shirt, bunching them up between your fingers. “Listen Ben, you and Gwen are the only people who can help me with my problem.” Ben’s eyes widened as he witnessed a small tear falling down your face. Your grip on his shirt loosened as you cradled your face with your hands, letting all of your pent up anxiety and frustration out through crying. Ben brought you in for a tight hug, stroking your hair.
“Please tell me what the problem is. I promise I will do everything in my power to help you.” You looked up at Ben with watery eyes and a sniffling nose. “It-It’s Kevin. I can’t find him anywhere. Whilst I was working, he left me a note saying that he’s leaving Bellwood. I’ve looked all over town for him. I’ve rang his phone multiple times but he’s ignoring my calls. I need to know that he’s OK Ben!”
The sobs started again as Bens face fell; his face was filled with dread. Knowing his best friend, he was probably going on a deadly mission solo, being too macho to ask for help. Ben closed his eyes and pulled you away from him, looking you straight in the eyes. “I promise, Y/N, we will find him.” You nodded as Ben gave you a small smile, wiping your tears away.
“Let’s go and see if Gwen has anything that can help us. She’s usually the best person to go to when you need to find somebody.” Ben guided you over to the door and turned the knob. “You may need an object of Kevin’s in case Gwen can find a spell to track him.” You nodded. “I have just the thing.” You shrugged the jacket off your shoulders and looped it over your arm. “This is his favourite jacket, so it should do the trick.”
Ben pulled into the driveway of Gwen’s house. He had called ahead and asked her to gather everything she could about a tracking spell. The front door was already open, so you and Ben walked straight inside and up the stairs.
Gwen’s door was wide open and you could see a mountain of books filling the room. “Gwen?” A head popped up over the books. “Hey guys, I have some good news for you!” A smile graced your features as Gwen began to explain her findings.
“I’ve found a tracking spell. It’s very simple, it only needs one ingredient. We need something of Kevin’s.” You stepped forward and handed her the jacket. “Alright then.” Gwen closed her eyes and began to chant a small incantation.
The next time she opened her eyes, they were pink with mana. “I’ve found him, Y/N, in an abandoned house a few miles outside of Bellwood.” Before she could finish her sentence, you were dragging Ben out of the door. “Text me the co-ordinates, Gwen!” She laughed at Ben’s flailing figure as you pulled him through the front door.
Anxiety coarsed through your body as Ben parked outside the abandoned house. “Are you sure this is it, B?” Ben put the co-ordinates into his phone again to double check their current location. “Yep, definitely.” He could see the anxiety in your face and placed a caring hand on your shoulder. “Do you want me to come in with you?” You shook your head in response. “No, I’ll be alright. Thanks though.”
Ben nodded in understanding as you opened the car door and walked up the pathway of the house. You knocked on the door but it swung open, so you stepped inside. “Kev?” No answer. “Kev, baby, it’s Y/N.” You began to walk around the lower part of the house, poking your head into all the room and using your phone as a flashlight.
You were just about to give up looking on the ground floor when you heard a slight creak coming from the end of a darkened room. Inquisitively, you walked into the room and flashed the flashlight in the direction of the sound. “Kevin!”
You rushed towards him and wrapped your arms around his neck, happy tears falling down your cheeks. “What are you doing here? All alone, in the dark. “Why did you leave?” You placed your hands on his cheeks and looked him in the eyes to try and figure out what was going on.
Your heart broke as the eyes that were usually filled with love and happiness were now filled with regret and shame. “Please Kev, talk to me. I can help you.” Kevin opened his mouth to speak, but decided against it. He took a deep breath and looked away from you, as if he was ashamed.
“I’m a disappointment, Y/N. I’ve let all of you down. This wasn’t supposed to happen.” Your heart broke more Kevin’s words filled your ears. “I’m so ashamed of this, of my mutation. Every time I look at myself in the mirror, I’m just reminded of all the bad things that I’ve done. I’m not good enough for you, Y/N. I never have been and I never will be. Your better off leaving me here and going back to Bellwood to live your life without me.”
You were speechless as Kevin broke down crying in front of you. You had never seen Kevin this way, so broken. You brought his face back to yours and looked him dead in the eye. “You are not a disappointment, Kevin. You are one of the bravest people I know. Look at how much you’ve changed! How could anybody be disappointed in that, eh?”
You rubbed your thumb over Kevin’s rocky skin, running your fingers along all of the cracks. “You should never be ashamed of who you are, Kev. Each and every part of you, good and bad, makes you who you are. I will never leave you behind, you are the best part of me. My life changed the day I met you. You brought happiness into my life when there was so much darkness. Mutated or not, Kevin, you will always be my guy. Nothing will ever change that.”
A smile slowly formed on Kevin’s face as your kind words sunk into him. Slowly he leaned forward and pressed his lips against yours, passion shining through. He broke away from you and began to stroke your cheek lovingly. “What would I do without you, Y/N? You’re always by my side, no matter what. I love you so much.”
You leaned forward and pressed your forehead against his. “I love you to, Kevin. Always and forever.” You then stood up and held your hand out for him to take, which he did. “Now let’s go home, together.”
