A/N: Requested as a part 2 to Softer Side, another story in this book.

Pairing: Ben Tennyson x platonic!autistic!reader

It had been a few months since you had first met Ben when he came to your aid after having a meltdown in school. Just as he had promised, Ben had made sure that he was always by your side no matter what, especially during the more anxiety-inducing times; that's when he really proved his friendship.

He had learned to spot the signs of an incoming meltdown and managed to get you into a quiet place so you could let out your frustrations without anybody staring.

You suppose you shouldn't have been too shocked when you walked towards your locker and noticed red decorations hanging from the vents in the door. You furrowed your eyebrows, trying to think who it possibly could have been. You knew that the day was Valentines but you never really bothered to take part, considering everybody thought you were a complete outside and you were never asked or included in things.

Curiosity got the better of you as you opened the door to your locker, jumping back when two large balloons floated up and out. You took a few steps back towards your locker and read the note attached to the ends of the balloon. "Meet me at your favourite place."

Slight anxiety ensued as the question of who wrote the note whirled around and around your brain. However as you took a closer look at the note, the anxiety soon settled as you recognised the handwriting as Ben's. A smile spread onto your face as you slammed your locker shut and skipped out of the school.

Excitement grew inside your body as you neared the beach. Seeing your best friend always made you happy, no matter if there was an occasion or not. Walking slowly down the slope leading to the beach, you spotted the infamous green jacket before you spotted Ben. You picked up the pace and ran towards him, engulfing Ben in a hug and completely missing the dinner set up right behind him.

"Hey, Y/N. How's my best friend doing today?" You smiled brightly in response. "Much better now that I'm with you at my favourite place." You brought him in for another hug when your eyes widened as you had finally spotted what was set up behind you.

Breaking away, you slowly walked over to investigate. "Ben, did you do this?" Your eyes grazed over the table as you noticed each and every piece of food was your favourite. You had a limited palette of foods that you liked which always made it hard going out to eat but Ben had managed to gather all of your safe foods together.

Ben joined you at your side, wrapping an arm around your shoulders. "Of course I did. I know how hard these holidays can be for you so I decided to celebrate it with you in a way that you would enjoy." He pulled back the chair and gestured for you to sit down before he took his seat beside you.

You both sat in comfortable silence, eating the food and watching the sunset begin in front of you. You set your cutlery down on the empty plate and turned to Ben. "Thank you for making this day special for me. Nobody's made an effort for me before."

Ben gave a warm smile as he rested his hand on top of yours. "Only the best for my best friend." You smiled back and squeezed his hand before turning back towards the sunset, sighing in contentment as relaxation passed through your body.
