"Steve, are you sure? I already feel like me tagging along today was already too much."
Steve offered you to crash on his couch at his apartment. You had money to take care of yourself but Steve didn't see the sense of it.
"Y/N, you know it's no big deal." As Steve pulls up to the driveway of his apartment building on his motorcycle, you take off the helmet and just glare at Steve in a jokingly way.
"Fine, but if my Dad calls me, I'm telling him this was your idea." You hopped off the cycle and placed the helmet on the seat.
"It was." Steve laughed as he does the same.
"Come on, before I change my mind." You scoffed.
You two head up to the apartment and get on the elevator. Steve was on the third floor.
The elevator door bings and you and Steve get off. You yawn.
"That's so sweet. That is so nice. Hey. I gotta go, though. Okay, bye." A woman who was leaving her apartment to do laundry spots Steve and you. "My aunt, she's kind of an insomniac."
Steve smiled at her.
You smirk in a jokingly way, just watching how Steve would handle this.
"Hey, if you want...if you want, you're welcome to use my machine. Might be cheaper than the one in the basement." Steve offered. Obviously in a flirting way.
"Oh, yeah? What's it cost?" The woman flirts back.
"A cup of coffee?" Steve slid that in.
"Nice." You nod in satisfaction. Steve hits your stomach to tell you to knock it off.
"Children, huh?" He scoffed sarcastically.
"Are you kid-" You get interrupted by Steve scooting you to the side, "Go inside." He told you in a quick tone as he tosses you the keys.
You roll your eyes and smiled sweetly to the girl, "Have a nice night."
You groaned in annoyance as you heard light chatter behind you. You tried about seven different keys until Steve stopped his conversation to help you.
"How was I supposed to know?" You whispered to yourself harshly. You opened the door and cautiously enter the apartment because you heard the stereo on. Your face turned puzzled as you heard Steve come up from behind with his shield out for protection.
"Steve?" You whispered in a harsh tone.
"Stay behind me." He pushed you behind him and slid against the walls as you did the same. Steve turns the corner and immediately placed his shield down. You tilt your head in confusion as you revealed yourself around the corner also.
"Fury?" You questioned, confused.
He was on the couch, slumped.
"I don't remember giving you a key." Steve raised an eyebrow.
"You really think I'd need one? My wife kicked me out." Fury fixed his posture and sighed.
"Didn't know you were married." You walked closer to him and sat yourself on the arm of the chair. You pat his back out of sympathy.
"There is a lot of things you don't know about me." Fury states in an intriguing way. He stands up and you do also to watch his moves.
"I know, Nick. That's the problem." Steve shot.
Steve turns on the light and you and him both notice Fury's injuries for the first time, but Fury indicates for him and you to be silent. Fury turns off the light and writes something on his phone and shows it to Steve and you.
"Ears everywhere"
"I'm sorry to have to do this, but I had no place else to crash." Fury writes another text and shows it.
"SHIELDS compromised"
"Who else knows about your wife?" You question him, knowing it is about the texts.
Fury shows you another text.
"You and me"
"Just...my friends." Fury warned.
"Is that what we are?" Steve scoffed lightly.
"That's up to you two." Fury nods.
Suddenly, you hear three gun shots your way and Fury is shot three times from through the wall and collapses.
You and Steve look out the window for the shooter then Steve quickly drags Fury to the next room.
You keep your eyes on the shooter but your attention shoots to Steve and Fury. Fury hands him a flash drive.
"Don't...trust anyone." Fury passes out.
You then hear someone breaking into Steve's apartment and hears his neighbor calling out to him.
"Captain Rodgers?" You hear the neighbors voice and Steve sees her walking in with her gun pointed. "Captain, I'm Agent 13 of SHIELD Special Service."
"Kate?" Steve's voice cracked out of surprise.
"I'm assigned to protect you and her." She told you two.
"On whose order?" Steve questioned it like it was untrue.
She notices Fury lying injured on the ground.
"His." She goes to Fury then contacts SHIELD through her radio." Foxtrot is down, he's unresponsive. I need EMTs."
"Do you have a twenty on the shooter?" The agent on the other side asks Kate.
You then catch eye contact with the shooter through the window.
"Tell him I'm in pursuit." You suit up quickly from chest to toe and without hesitation, you smash the window with your metal suit and run after the assassin.
"Y/N!" You hear Steve's voice from inside the apartment. It was in the wind.
You almost catch up to him many times, but he was always a step ahead of you. You chase him through buildings and you witness the assassin jump on a roof. You hesitate and realized that you couldn't freeze now. You backed up a couple of feet and ran, jumping over. You roll on the roof and witnessed the assassin, amazed and shocked that you made that jump.
You grunt as you shoot repulsors through your hand. In one swift move, the assassin blocks it with his metal hand.
You gasped, staring straight into his eyes. You two share an intense moment and his shoulders seemed to relax for a moment like he wasn't going to hurt you.
Your eyes widened as the assassin jump off the building into the streets.
"No." You grunt as you run over to the edge, having no sign of him. He was in the wind.
