I promised myself I wouldn’t do this. And yet, here I sit, writing a fanfiction story about people who actually exist.
The reason behind my decision not to write such a thing is simple; if I write about real people and build up personalities for them in my head, then I’m afraid I’ll be disappointed if/when I actually do meet them, because they won’t be the same as they are in my head canon.
The reason I’m doing it anyways is equally simple; I am sick of the low quality of fan stories for this fandom, and I want to show the world that it is possible to be a super obsessive fan, and still write a well-balanced, high quality story, that avoids too much cliché (read: is original) and doesn’t contain so much drama that it could rival afternoon soap operas (The Young and the Restless, anyone? ;])
Now, this isn’t to say that all the stories in this fandom are bad, quite the contrary. Some are quite phenomenal, and many of the authors have oodles of potential, they just want so badly for their work to be liked that they follow the tried-and-true use-every-romantic-cliché-in-the-book method. Others have plot potential, but somewhat poor writing quality (lack of caps when needed, misuse of punctuation, excess of/unnecessary caps, lack of punctuation, many spelling errors, lack of formatting… the list goes on.) can turn people way. I commend their effort, but being a bit of a grammar stickler, it pains me to read things like that.
I am going to try and write a story that avoids the majority of clichés, has a fairly original plotline, a high writing quality, and a non-Mary-Sue (perfect or too near to it, for those who don’t know) main character. This will probably not be achieved, especially the cliché part, because I am a true romantic at heart. But… making an effort. Most feedback is appreciated, with the exception of flames/spam/trolling.
To be honest, this chapter is mostly just me trying to figure out how to use this site, and what sort of formatting/ text stuff (bold, italics, etc.) actually work. I spend most of my time over on fanfiction.net, so I’ve really no idea how any other site works… ff.net’s story upload system is rather… unique, we’ll say.
I suppose I’ll introduce you to my versions of the boys. I’m trying to keep them as close to how they actually act as possible, by watching interviews and other things, and those random fact things on tumblr. Plus, the abnormally large number of fanfictions that I have read… I’m really not sure how accurate any of this information is though, so please; notify me of any major inconsistencies. I’ve never met them, or even seen them live, so…. Anyways.
Harry: The flirt. Cheeky and fun, he can be serious if he needs to… maybe… once you beat it through his skull, ‘cause he’s a bit oblivious sometimes. He is sensitive to the way people view him, but tries not to show it, and tries not to take the hate to heart. For the most part he doesn’t take life too seriously, and his personality and somewhat dirty mind can make him come off as a bit of a player sometimes. Whether or not he actually is remains unclear.
Louis: Loud, outgoing, and somewhat insane. Many people say “immature” or “childish”, but he can be perfectly serious sometimes. He just wants to be himself, and doesn’t really care what people say. He is not as much of a flirt as Harry, but his fun, bubbly personality does occasionally come off as flirtatious. Whether or not this is deliberate or not is also unclear. Sometimes overreacts slightly to situations (like the Larry Stylinston thing…) but overall, a truly nice guy.
Liam: The responsible one. More down to earth than some of the other members of the group, he can be just as cheeky and zany if he wants to be. He is very protective of his bandmates—Daddy Direction, indeed. While he can be fun, he is often slightly uptight because he feels responsible for the happiness and well-being of the other members of the band. Polite, kind, he doesn’t like to inconvenience anybody if it can be avoided.
