Finishing her performance with a strong, powerful note, Sophia briefly held the microphone away from herself and bowed, lightly panting at a slight shortness of breath. Applause filled the room when she stood back up and she smiled widely, bouncing on her toes and squeezing the mic in both hands out of happiness and hyper energy. Usually, this would be her final song for the night, but this wasn't just any old night. This time she had something very special in store.
"What's up, Reighton!" She shouted over the speakers, earning her another loud cheer. She waited for everyone to calm down, and then spoke again. "I'd say we know each other pretty dang well, wouldn't you think? After all, it is only every weekend that I see you guys." The crowd chuckled. "So, seeing as we've known each other for a while, that makes us some form of friends, yeah? And friends tell each other special things. Awesome secrets that you'd only tell someone you trust. Well, I've got something to say tonight."
The air fills with people asking questions and wondering what she means, curious chatter echoing all around the giant room. Glancing backwards, Sophia sees that her friends onstage with her also are confused, even her sister looking puzzled as she was not told what was going on. Her heart filled with nervous yet giddy excitement as she prepared to talk, about to reveal something she had been hiding for a long time. Turning back to the crowd, she took a deep breath.
"All of you might not know this, but I've gone through a hell of a lot in my life here in Neighbourhood. I'm not saying exactly what happened, but I can say that it was hard to power through. For a while, it hurt me deeply, breaking my heart and mind into a thousand pieces, and I thought it would never repair- but then I realised that I had my friends to help me. Especially my sister, who was by my side the entire time. We were ecstatic the day we found out that the source of our problems was taken care of, lifting an enormous weight from our shoulders. It was a huge advancement for us, and I can't thank everyone enough for what they did to help. That, however, all took place over three years ago, almost four, and since then, something else has occurred.
"I met someone a couple years before the whole thing ended, and at the time, I didn't trust her at all. I thought she had something to do with what was going on, but I ended up being so wrong in so many ways. She's gone through nearly as much as I have- it may not be the same, but the toll was heartbreaking. It took me a while to warm up to her, but once I did, I realised how much of a wonderful person she truly was. We spent countless days together, discussing our lives and days and things that we enjoyed, watched movies, ate, and just loved being near each other so much."
Sophia shot another quick glance behind her, grinning again at the happy expressions she saw. She then scanned the crowd, pinpointing who she was talking about- and beckoned her onto the stage. She beamed and scooted her way through the people, making her way to the stairs and hopping up every step to join her partner.
"This is Victoria," Sophia continued with a smile. "We have been together for almost three and a half years, and roughly two weeks ago was one of the most surprising and joyful moments in my life thus far..." The two of them looked at each other with glee before continuing.
"We're engaged!" They said in unison, instantly met with thunderous happy cheers of congratulation from the mass of people below. Noelle, Sophia's sister, was the first to catch them both in a tight embrace onstage, followed closely by the rest of the friends of family that were there that night. The sounds of tears and laughter ever so slightly broadcasted into the microphone which had been dropped to the floor, just flooding the room with joy and excitement all around. Sophia's announcement was unexpected, but certainly one of the best ones anyone could have asked for.
