The young angel opened his eyes. He stretched his arms, legs, and sky blue wings to shake the sleep out of him. Virgil sat up and gracefully hopped off of his bed with a flap of his wings.
Once he was dressed, he made his way downstairs into the living room, where his mother was sitting on the couch with a cup of coffee.

She looked up and smiled warmly. "Good morning, sweetie! It's your big day today!" Virgil scratched the back of his head. "Yeah...I'm still incredibly nervous though. It's the step into the next phase of my life." At this, his mother set her cup down and walked up to him. She cupped his face with one hand and gently sweeped his bangs off his face with the other. "You've grown so much, you know that? And you're only going to keep growing. It's natural to feel nervous, and as such, it's perfectly okay! I'll support you every step of the way."

She looked into Virgil's eyes, which were the same sky blue as his wings. His cross-shaped pupils glistened with a light that was pleasing to any who saw. As she observed him, she was reminded about how no other angel had eyes and wings with such a rich color and saturation. Her son was definitely one-of-a-kind.

Virgil smiled a little, reassured by his mother's words. "I needed that, thanks mom." He hugs her warmly, in which she returns the favor. "Now go and get ready, you can't be late!" Virgil took a deep breath and smiled. "I will!"

A few minutes later, Virgil stood at the door and gave his mother one last hug before he left. Little did he know that the hug he gave to his mother at that moment would indeed be the last...

Virgil anxiously flew towards the center of his city, for today was the day of Reckoning. It was a simple process, frankly, but it determined a young angel's future and what they would be able to do. So it was regarded as an important day.

While flying over the buildings, Virgil spotted one of his closest friends and decided to fly over to them to at least have some company. "Hey Azrael! How do you feel?" Azrael was an angel who had light red wings, which was pretty uncommon. Of course, the angels who lived here had wings and eyes of all different colors, but not that many were red. He looked at Virgil and chuckled nervously. "Honestly, I don't know...I can't believe the Reckoning has come already! This is HUGE!" Virgil laughed. "I totally understand. Let's just stay calm though. We're not even there yet!" Azrael relaxed at the sight of Virgil's cheeriness. "Hah, of course. Let's save the panicking for when it starts!"

They shared a good laugh before they arrived. The center of the city was already filled with other teenagers who were antsy and jittery with excitement. The two angels landed near some others they knew and started to converse while they waited for the Reckoning to begin.

Suddenly, the sky grew dark and everyone fell silent. No one knew what was happening. The seraph was nowhere to be seen...
