"Ah, he's come to."
"No worries. Let's begin..."~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The taller figure drew closer to the chained angel. A focused point of red light shone from what looked like his hand. Virgil pulled at his restraints in a vain attempt to escape, but of course failed. After a few more tries, he gave up and hung his head. He saw movement out of the corner of his eye, but ignored it. "This is hopeless. I'm done for."
He thought that he was brought here to die a painful death, but his captors had something else in mind. Virgil felt his chin being lifted by a hand, cold to the touch. His eyes widened when he saw the other hand. The light had formed a shape which he knew all too well.
The Ancient Sigil!-
"Wait, that's- NO! Please-" Virgil had tears in his eyes as he was trying all he could to escape. The figure disregarded his struggles and brought his hand up to his forehead. When the sign made contact, all Virgil felt was pain coursing through his veins. "AAAAAHHHH!!" It was too much for him to handle. It seemed to last for a lifetime. But then the hand holding his chin was yanked away as the figure skidded across the ground. He felt the chains come off his wrists and wings. Another figure lifted him up and ran outside.
Virgil didn't realize he had fainted until he woke up to a completely new setting. He seemed to be in someone's bedroom. As his vision cleared, he saw a face looking over at him. It was Azrael.Virgil's breath hitched as he sat up and backed away cautiously. "What are you doing here?" Azrael quickly held his hands up, as if in surrender. "I'm not trying to hurt you. In fact I was the one who prevented you from being fully cursed..." "Oh Christ, it wasn't a dream...do I look any different?" Azrael hesitated. "You can see for yourself." He pointed to a nearby mirror.
He really didn't want to see how the Sigil had affected him, but it wouldn't hurt too much, right? Virgil carefully stood up and walked over to see his reflection. What he saw horrified him.
His right eye had turned a deep red and the cross had turned upside down. On top of that, his wings had become a dirty beige color, as if there were actually dirt on his wings. "If you're scared by that...then look at this." Azrael held up a hand mirror to let Virgil see his back. There was a faded imprint of the Ancient Sigil right down the dip of his back. Virgil covered his face with his hands.
"I'm going to be excommunicated for sure..." Azrael hung his head in regret at his comment. "I'm partly to blame, V...I just hope you'll forgive me after all of this. That's all I ask." Virgil looked at him. "I can definitely do that...heh, I guess you can say we have a lot more in common now-" He pointed to his eye. Azrael gave a lighthearted chuckle. "True. You still have to go and meet the seraph though." Virgil gave a long sigh. "Yeah, I guess I do."
"If it'll help...I'll go with you. I need to right my wrongs anyway." Azrael held his hand out. "But only if you're up for it." Virgil smiled and shook his hand, then pulled him in for a hug. "Of course. I can forgive pretty easily."
Soon after, the two angels met with the seraph. He was visibly upset at what had occurred that day, but sorrowful as well. He spoke to Virgil first. "I am sorry, child. You were such a large target and I should have done more to ensure your safety. Alas, what has fallen upon you cannot be undone. I have no choice but to send you away." Then he turns to Azrael. "Since you have come to repent of your actions, your punishment will not be so harsh. You will be spared, but you will be excommunicated alongside Virgil. Understood?" Both of the angels replied with a short and polite "Yes." The seraph nodded solemnly. "Now leave my presence."
They hurried back to Azrael's room, careful as to not make contact with anyone. After gathering a few things, they headed to the portal which led to other dimensions. Before they headed through, Azrael pulled Virgil aside. "I think it's best if we don't see each other ever again. I might turn on you again." Virgil sighed. "That's definitely understandable. We're still friends though, right?" Azrael gripped Virgil's shoulders tightly. "Of course. Friends till death."
They stepped into the portal together.
On the other side, they shared one last hug before parting ways. "Goodbye..." was the last thing Virgil heard from Azrael.
Inside his messenger bag was everything he had packed, but he saw something else. A red and beige cloak and a pair of goggles. Within the cloak's pocket, he found a note. "Found these in my closet. Hopefully they'll be of some use to you. I'll miss you greatly. -Azzy"
Virgil smiled and put the cloak on. It was a perfect fit, same thing with the goggles. As he adjusted the goggles to his liking, he couldn't help but think about home. He could never go back. He didn't even have a chance to say goodbye to everyone he loved.
He felt the breeze flow through his hair as he took off into the sky, wondering what will happen next.
