Rhy's eyes fluttered open. He was in his own room. Slowly turning his head, he saw flowers. A bouquet. 'Damn it...attention. People saw me pass out.' He thought, attention was the last thing he ever wanted. The flowers meant someone was worried... about him. Odd feeling. He figured he should take a look at the card attached to the flower vase but right as he tried to sit up, a sharp pain shot through his head. "Hhhn!" With a loud breathy groan he let his body fall back down against the bed.
Suddenly, a shadowy figure appeared. The thing was darker than dark could be. Describing the color of the thing as black seemed like an understatement. The shadow figure was darker than any shade of dark could be. The liquidy shadows seemed to creep up over his bed. Even though Rhys felt weak and worn out he lifted his hand, ready to blast whatever might try to attack him. The shadow got closer and closer until he was face to face with the dark cloud. Rhys blinked, and in the moment of that blink the shadow was gone. In the shadow's place was a human boy- or at least he looked human. "Get off me!" Rhys shoved the boy off him. He quickly tried to sit up but his visitor instantly shook his head. "Stop it, you need to lay down." He said.
His mysterious visitor had pale skin and dark hair, just as dark as the shadow had been. His hair was long. Down to his shoulders. He looked like a greek statue. He was no more than 15. His gaze was cold and mature, but he didn't look older than Rhys. "I'm Ash." The boy stated. "Yeah? well? get the fuck out of my room!" Rhys snapped, not liking the vibes Ash was giving off. Ash cocked a brow. "I'm trying to help you, filthy brat." He snapped back. After a few moments of pure silence, Ash spoke up again. "You need to get out of this town by tonight. Which is why you should rest up now. I'm sure this will be your last night in a warm bed with food fed to you by your mommy." He said seriously.
Rhys quickly shook his head. "You.. You're lying!" He yelled, oh how he wanted to just be left alone. To live in peace. Ash visibly grew angry. His eyes flashing a crazy look. "Fine! Fine! Want to be stubborn? I'll show you what the future holds!" Ash hissed back. Before Rhys could even think, he felt frozen. His eyesight blurred until he saw a picture in his own head. Blood trickled from his nose as he viewed the future. Just as fast as it happened, the vision stopped.
Rhys was going to die. He didn't know when. He didn't know how much time he had left. But, he knew he would. He wasn't sure what his vision meant but he drew one clear answer from it. He was going to die unless he fixed "them". But fix who? Who was them? In his vision "them" just looked like a group of blurred faces. Did this have something to do with the anniversary of his brother's death coming up? One thing was for sure, he was going to follow this Ash kid. Almost as if Ash had read his mind, he spoke up, "We leave at midnight. Rest up. Pack a bag. I'll guide you as far as I can go."
"Why are you helping me?" Rhys asked. Was it because he was going to die soon? Out of respect? He wasn't sure. Once again there was a silence. "Family sticks together, don't they?" Ash stated with a grin before disappearing completely.
'Family...?' Rhys thought, his mind turning. A gust of wind came in through his open window, flicking the card attached to the flower vase to the ground. In bold letters Rhys could see the words, "From Ash, your only hope".
