Chapter Seven

A presence stood next to my bed woke me the next morning. I groaned and sat up slowly. My neck ached and my head still felt a little bit fuzzy.

“Here, drink this” a voice from beside me made me jump.

I looked up to see Caden stood with a glass or orange juice in one hand and a breakfast bar in the other. “What’s this for?” I asked as I took the juice from his outstretched hand. My fingers grazed his as I took the glass making tingles spread up my arm. Caden quickly retracted his hand and placed it behind his back in one swift movement.

Caden looked away for a second before bringing his eyes back down to mine “the sugar in the drink and food will make you feel better after the blood loss” he winced but a look of longing crossed his eyes.

I cast my eyes down to the duvet cover and silently took a sip of the drink. The memories of last night came flooding back. I should feel afraid but I wasn’t. “Thanks” I mumbled as I took the breakfast bar from his grip.

“We’re leaving in half an hour to see your parents” he stated.

I nodded “Okay”

We lapsed into awkward silence. Caden stood and stared at me not knowing what to say. His mouth opened and closed a few times but no words escaped through his lips. “Did you want something else? I kind of need to get dressed” I said as I motioned down to my crimpled clothes from yesterday.

For the first time I saw Caden blush “Erm yeah. I-I’m going to go” he pointed towards the door. I looked at him expectantly when he didn’t move “Yeah” he said as he turned and left the room.

When the door clicked shut I groaned and placed my head in my hands. Thoughts of Caden were flooding my brain. He was a vampire. He could kill me in a flick of a wrist but I didn’t feel scared of him. I wanted to help him. Comfort him.

I sighed and finished of the food I had in front of me. I looked at the small alarm clock that sat on the bedside table. 9:36. My parents should be home today as if I worked it out correctly, it was Tuesday and neither of them worked on a Tuesday.

I got up from the bed and picked up my bag that I had thrown onto the floor last night. I rummaged through it and picked out a fresh pair of jeans, a tank top and a cardigan. The weather didn’t look too bad but I knew that I was going to be slightly cold seeing as it was only January.

Opening the door, I padded across the suite and entered the bathroom. I quickly showered, combed my hair and used a toothbrush that the hotel provided. I wiped away the steam and looked at myself in the mirror. My face was slightly pale but the colour was coming back to my cheeks after the sugar rush from earlier. I titled my neck to the side and inspected the area where Caden had bitten yesterday. My eyes widened when I noticed that there wasn’t any evidence of it left. My neck was completely smooth.

A knock on the door pulled me out of my confusion. “Yeah?” I shouted.

“Are you ready?” Caden shouted through the door.

“Just a second!” I quickly scrambled my clothes together and opened the bathroom door. Caden was still there, waiting patiently for me. “I don’t have a scar” was the first thing I said to him.

“What?” he asked with furrowed eyebrows.

I motioned towards my neck “There’s not scar from yesterday” I repeated

Caden’s eyes darkened for a few seconds but a quick shake of his head snapped him out of it “I closed the wound yesterday. Something in my saliva heals the wound” he explained.
