Prior to leaving school the other day before the weekend, Sam wrote B back a letter and stuck it onto his locker, saying that he accepted his apology, and obviously also accepting B's question.
There were two weeks until the Valentine's Day dance, which was—of course—on February 14th. The date is a Saturday, and it starts at 6:00 pm. Sam has the date locked into his brain.
On Monday when Sam arrived at school he went straight to his locker to see if B wrote him a letter. To his relief there was a reply.
