As the name of the chapter suggests, this story is beggining right along with the day. I wonder how will it go
3rd Person POV
An alarm clock is going off in one of the many rooms in the barracks of the ship, as the camera pans into the room, we see a man's arm reaching from the bunk truing to hit the clock so it stops, although instead of hitting the target, the man miscalculated and fell off of the bed
He gets off of the ground with a groan, and finally turns off the alarm, he gives a deep sigh, and forces his eyes open, his tired brown eyes try to adapt to the lights which turned on when the man got up, he slightly squints them for a second
After that, he gets to his daily routine, walking over to his wardrobe to get dressed, he takes out his uniform and slowly puts it on still not fully awake, as he finishes up with the uniform, he grabs his helmet and leaves the room closing the door before walking away in the direction of the cafeteria
He soon arrives at his destination, his helmet now under his arm, he swiftly enters the cafeteria which is lively as always, the man gets himself some basic breakfast stuff, some scrambled eggs, a bit of bread and some hot coffee to wash it down with
He finds a place near one of the tables, he sits down and puts the tray with his food infront of himself, grabbing the fork and eating the food, as expected, tastes kinda like nothing, he shrugs, finishes breakfast, puts on his helmet and went to place the tray in the disposal
As he leaves the tray there, and exits the cafeteria, he takes a stroll towards the tram station to get to his working deck, he has a neutral look under his helmet, not showing any emotion of any kind, we can only guess that he is thinking about something deeply, what is that? We have no idea
He slowly makes his way to the tram station with his typical slouched walk, getting into the tram with the others, clicking on his destination, and waits till it rides off to the distance. he got himself a nice standing spot, his hand latching onto one of those ring like thingies you can hold onto in a bus, the tram makes a few stops along the way as other people walk out of it. The Tram finally arrives at his destination.
He gets off with a slight yawn, he streches once again, and slowly but surely makes his way to his working station, where would it be? Glad you're asking, its near the engine refueling station on the enginnering deck, he keeps his eyes on the fuel level inside the fueltanks, and makes sure that the engines are refueled when needed, he says to himself that he's lucky he got such an easy job here all the time, sometimes flexing on others who work extremely hard every single day
Of course, as much as he loves this part of the job, he hates it when he's needed overtime to help on other stations, but who wouldn't? Anyway, going back, we see that said Engineer is working quite dilligently at the moment near his station's console, he does a check up on the console's system, checking if everything works as intended, check the fuel gauge of both fuel tanks and all the engines.
When he sees everything is up and running the way it should, he slightly smiles before taking a seat in his semi comfortable chair near the console, as he sits down, the chair creaks a bit which silenced the sound of his cracking bones
He cringed slightly at the feeling, not really enjoying the movement and cracking of his bones although the lack of the sound made it slightly better, he sighs before drifting off into deep thought
Too bad I can't read minds, but I'm also kinda glad I can't, who knows what dwells in some people's heads? I certainly don't! And I'd Rather not, well after this small rant, let's go back to our point of interest here shall we?
Some time has passed so now he's back up and looking at the console, checking if everything's still the way it should be, he shakes his head, wanting and not wanting something interesting to happen
He doesn't and does get his wish as a sudden bang on the small table next to the console wakes him from his train of thought, the man looks to the side to check the origin, and sees a steaming hot coffee cup and a hand holding it, he follows the hand and sees his friend and supervisor
"At least you aren't slacking off this time Y/n"
The other man said in a slightly tired yet light tone, looking at the young engineer with a mentorlike look, the Engineer now known as Y/n smiles sheepishly at the older man
"Well Edmund, we both know this job is boring, I'm just taking advantage of that sometimes"
Y/n said jokingly, both men snicker slightly before Edmund switches his look to semi serious, sliding the coffee to the young engineer
"You're getting Transferred"
The older man said, his semi serious look turned full serious, as he said those words, Y/n who was about to take a sip of his second coffee of the day, started choking on the half sip of the coffee, looking at Edmund shocked
"What? Where? And for what reason?"
He asked, the surprise and shock evident in his voice as he stares at Edmund Wide Eyed, seems that even though he finds the job boring, he does not wish to change his position
"Don't worry, you're still working on the engines...just instead of the refueling and checking the gauges, you're gonna be making sure everything works well there, no system console, no systems, just you, a flashlight and other handy tools looking over the engines"
Edmund replies looking at the engineer with a soft look, knowing that the guy infront of him, which is like a son to him, would rather not change his work
"But why? I mean, I get it, they can check these systems on the bridge if they ever wanna, but I don't get why? The engine staff there is working well, they don't need a newbie"
Y/n replies, his voice now calm, although his body language says he does not like this decision, well, who would? Moving from a comfortable position over a console now he's gonna be covered in engine oil and be working hard there everyday the pay being still the same
"Listen kiddo, I know you don't like it, nobody would like it in your place, but due to the bunch of accidents which happened due to one guy, they got him fired and sent him off, they need a replacement"
Edmund explained calmly, hoping Y/n understand the position the engine higher ups are in, Y/n just hangs his head a bit and sighs, accepting he's not getting out of it
"Oh well...would've had to say bye one day either way, and my family wouldn't be happy to hear I've been nothing but slacking off, fine, when's the transfer?"
Y/n says, leaving the question at the end, expecting he will have to gather his not so many things immediately and leave, but to his surprise Edmund says
"Tomorrow, so, keep doing your job, and after your shift just gather your things and get ready for the transfer"
Edmund patted Y/n's shoulder lightly with a soft smile as he turns around to leave
"One more thing kid, try not to mess with the other crew too much will you? I don't want to need to get you out of trouble again"
He says and laughs a bit before opening the door and leaving the young engineer alone with his thoughts, Y/n appears deep in thought again, as he shakes his head with a sigh, looking over the console one more time
"Transfer huh? Ehhhh, hoped it wouldn't have to happen for a few more cycles, oh well, but sorry Edmund, no promises on the problems"
Y/n says to himself with a chuckle and a soft smile under his blueishly glowing helmet
(Alright people, that'd be about it, hope you enjoyed, give feedback if needed and let me know what you think,
Toodles)
