Rocky mt. High was known for its diversity. It would be my third year attending rocky high. We have more cliques than any other school could ever have. From the jocks and cheerleaders to the yoga squad, the music band and yet I didn't fit in any.
I'm walking down a hallway at lunch and I see a group of friends on the side laughing at a joke they might have just told. A couple right in front of me holding hands and talking, probably about something exciting their going to do tonight.
"Miranda"- I turned to see who was calling me. It was kiera. Kiera Mullins. We've known each other since we were crawling in our diapers. She's the only friend I can actually trust and feel comfortable around. She's like my sister. A sister from another Mr.
"Hey kiera, what's up?" I asked glad to see her.
"Hey girl, since its Friday we should hang tonight." She said.
"And do what?" Trying to walk and talk in a busy crowded hall without loosing kiera was quite hard. Kiera never really cared what other people said about her. On the other hand I always cared what people said about me.
"I don't know. Go to the mall or go see a movie. Stuff normal teens do on a Friday night." I stopped an looked at her.
"So your saying that I'm not normal?" I crossed my arms.
"Your just-"she trailed off.
"Just what huh?" I looked at her with a serious look on my face as she stared back smiling. I smacked my binder at her. I knew what she was going to say.
"A loner.", she said as she laughed even harder, so I start walking away.
Still looking at her as I walk I say, "sure kiera I'll go somewhere with you. I'll prove to you I'm not a loner and that I can have fun." She laughs again as we turn a corner that lead into a more quieter hall.
"Yea ok. You don't even know what fun means." I ignored her.
"Where are we going tonight" I asked.
"Hmm?" She was thinking, which wasn't exactly a good thing. Most of her plans usually lead to trouble, and trouble usually lead to even bigger trouble.
"Don't think to hard. You'll pop a blood vessel." I laughed. This time she smacked her binder against my arm. That just made me laugh even more.
We turn another corner leading us into the main lobby. School trophies were in shiny cases lined on the sides of the lobby. Which made the school look more successful than it actually is. The lobby is a little louder than the hall we were just in but not as crowded as the first. "Hmm?" Kiera said still thinking. I shook my head as we head towards the staircase . Out of nowhere a person bumps into me, knocking me, my binder and all my papers to the ground. I heard kiera gasp, and a couple of other students laughing.
Ugh. I'm so embarrassed. I feel my cheeks begin to burn up.
"I'm really, really sorry." Said a deep voice. The guy leans down and helps me pick up my papers. I didn't dare to look at his face, I'm to embarrassed.
I grab the last sheet of paper and stand up. So does the guy. He hands me my other papers that he has in his hand, that's when I realized who he is.
He's the captain
of the football team. This just makes the situation a hundred times worse.
"Here you go." He smiled. "I'm so sorry I knocked you over."
"No, it's okay." I say biting my lower lip, nervously. He such a hottie, I don't even know his name. That just proves how social I am. How do I not know the football captain's name? Everybody knows his name.
"No it's not okay." He shakes his head in disapproval. "I'll make it up to you . I promise Miranda." Oh my gosh! He knows my name. How? I don't remember having classes with him.
"You don't have to."
"Actually." A smile creeps up his face. "I have a party tonight. You and kiera can come." He knows kiera"s name? Of course he does he just said it. Get yourself together Miranda.
"Umm." I say, just as kiera smacked my back. "Uh, ugh." I coughed, trying to hide the fact that kiera's smack didn't hurt. It did though. Really fricking bad.
Kiera always had a heavy hand, ever since we were young. Every time she needed my attention or I did or said something wrong she would smack or poke me.
"Sure Harry , we'll go to your party." Kiera answers for me, even though my answer was the total opposite. "Even if I have to drag Miranda myself." She said.
Harry.
He looks like a Harry.
Harry is such a hot name.
Harry and Miranda. Miranda and Harry.
Whoa I'm getting ahead of myself. I bet he already has a girlfriend. A hottie like him has to have a girlfriend, probably a cheerleader.
"Okay cool." Harry says with his million dollar smile. "And Miranda, your name is really pretty."
Random much?
"Thanks." I say biting my lower lip as I smile. He said my name is pretty! Wait, does he tell every girl he meets that their name is pretty?
"We'll see you later Miranda." Harry says.
"Yea see you later Harry ." I smile.
He turns letting out a whiff of his cologne.
"Yea, see you later Harry." Kiera says, but he was already down the hall.
She turns and looks and me. "He likes you." Kiera says.
"No he doesn't." I blush. "He's just being nice."
"Yea ok." She rolls her eyes. "He was just checking you out for five minutes for no freaking reason."
"No he wasn't."
"Yes he was. His eyes were basically glued to your body." Honestly a part of me hoped he liked me, but the other part is saying he's a jock and jocks don't like shy girls.
"What ever that's not true." I say, still blushing.
"Okay if you say so." She flips her hair to one side. "Girl. I'm hungry. Let's go get some McDonald's." it's funny how quick she changed the subject so quickly.
