My cracked reflection twinkles back at me. Sharp shards of glass are what drew me here. Using my broom to sweep the mess to a pile, I remember how it came to be.
"Evangeline Katerina Petrova! Get your a.ss over here right now!"
My mother didn't use such vulgar language, so whatever it is, it's not good. I scurried across the dusty wooden floor.
"Yes mother?" I asked not meeting her eyes. She said it was a sign of disrespect. That it showed I thought I was more important then she.
"Where is the fresh water I asked for an hour ago?" She demanded.
Now I remember. As I went to fetch the water from the well as she asked, I got slightly side-tracked with our neighbor down the dirt road. Ethan was his name. And he has the most intriguing eyes crafted, they were a misty grey with specks of purple and blue.Remembering my mother's question, I stammered, "Mother, I, um, I was a little distracted. Ethan came to say hello."
My mother seethed, "A boy!? You were distracted by a BOY??!!! They are evil creatures only seeking one thing! And once they have it, you will be left! You stupid child!" She screeched.
And that's when she pushed me to our full length mirror. Cracking the mirror and my head smashed against it, creating a webbed design. She stormed out leaving me to whimper. I stood, brushed off my corset floor-length
dress, placed on my hooded cloak, and headed out to the fields. A place I remember once was mine.Sweeping the bits, I swung the window open and threw them to the grass. I really don't care. Deciding for bed, I climbed up the ladder to the second clearing, where my small bed was. I closed my eyes not bothering to or say good night to Caroline. I just thought of a life I would rather have.
So this is me, Evangeline Katerina Petrova, and I live in 1512.
