CHAPTER 2

Outside of the laundry room, the party was still in full swing, and it seemed that hardly anyone noticed our disappearance.

"Hey Nate, can you get me a refill?" I asked him as we walked out, he smiled at me and nodded.

"Sure babe, what do you want?" he asked, while taking my red solo cup

"Surprise me!" I said, smiling up at him. He smiled back and proceeded to give me a peck on the lips before walking towards the kitchen.

I sighed and went and sat down on the couch, my mind was in overdrive, and for some reason I wasn't in the party mood as much as I was earlier. I was so wrapped up in my thoughts that I failed to notice someone sit next to me on the couch.

"Just who do you think you are?" asked a female voice from my left. It took me a moment to realize that the voice was directed at me. I looked up and barely suppressed a smile.

"Excuse me?" I replied, arching an eyebrow in question as I looked at the girl who Nate was talking to earlier. The girl who I, for lack of a better word, had cocked-blocked.

"You heard me! Who the hell do you think you are? Nathan is here with me tonight, and you just think you can come and take him away and be his little slut?" she said angrily. Her reaction was actually quite funny and I found myself smiling at her.

"Look here kid, I'm not the type to get into stupid teenage drama, so don't try to bring me into your little play. If you want to know who I am, just ask. There is no need to bring in insults or make claims that you can't back up"  I replied looking at her, smirking as she stared at me, getting angrier by the second.

"As for your kindly asked question" sarcasm dripped from my every word "Who am I? Brooke Carmichael, and who do I think I am? well Nate's girlfriend of course"

She stared at me with disbelief written all over her face.

"Girlfriend?" she asked and I nodded just as Nate came over with my drink.

"Here babe, I got you Cranberry and Vodka" he said smiling at me as he handed me my drink.

"Thanks Hun, I was actually just having a lovely chat with...I didn't catch your name" I said as I turned towards her. I could feel Nathan tense up besides me.

"Matilda Stewart" she replied and I couldn't help crinkle my nose at the name.

"Well Matilda here was just asking me some very interesting question" I said smiling up at him.

"Uh...S-she was?" he stuttered wide-eyed. I must admit I loved being the only girl with the power to get this reaction from him "What was she asking?" he asked

"Oh you know, just the basics. Who I am, what's my relation to you, and of course my favorite, if I was the slut prying you away from her...nothing too out of the ordinary" I replied. I might greatly dislike pointless teenage drama, but I sure as hell loved making it known what was mine.

"Slut?" he said angrily "Listen here Matilda, this is Brooke my girlfriend, and if I ever hear you refer to her as anything vulgar I will make sure you are never welcomed at another UY party again" he hissed through his teeth, glaring daggers at her.

"Sometimes I swear you are way too overprotective" I said smiling up at him, before getting up from the couch and holding my hand out for him "Come on, we're leaving. I've suddenly lost the party mood"

"Okay, let me just go say bye to the guys" he replied before giving me a kiss and walking away, but not before sending a pointed look towards Matilda.

"Look I just have one thing to say, and make sure it gets around to your little friends, you girls may be his screw for the night, but I am his girl and none of you are woman enough to take my man" I said as she stared up at me, wide-eyes. I turned and walked out the front door towards my car. I would wait for him here, he'd know where to find me.

I lay my head on the back of my seat. I knew that this wouldn't be the last time I'd see Matilda. I knew she would take what I said as a challenge, but I wasn't worried. The car door opened and Nathan slipped in.

"You sober enough to drive?" he asked, his words laced with concern.

"Is that a rhetorical question?" I asked back smiling coyly.

"How can I forget! The girl who can never get drunk!" He replied jokingly and I laughed

"Funny, but seriously yeah I only had one drink and a few sips of the one you gave me. You know I wouldn't risk driving if I thought I wasn't sober enough" I replied seriously

"I know babe, that's why you are the responsible one" he said, as he picked my hand up and kissed it.

I smiled at him, 'no matter what happened, I don't think I'd ever be able to let this man go' was my last thought before I started the car and drove to my apartment.
