Jessie
Civilization has crashed. No one could get along, and so they all started killing each other. No one knew how long until it would stop, so they moved out of the city. They left in groups. As everyone left the cities, planes flew over and dropped bombs.

               4 years later . . . .

There are two girls running down a dirt road. It was a warm summer night. The girls could see all of the stars in the sky. The youngest girl, Jessie, had a backpack full of water. Her older sister, Emma, had a backpack full of food. Jessie yelled, "Emma! Emma! Stop!" Emma stopped and looked at Jessie out of breath. Emma spun Jessie around and pulled out a water bottle. She took a drink then gave Jessie a drink. Emma went to put the water back in Jessie's bag when a truck pulled onto the road. Emma grabbed Jessie's hand and started running. Jessie felt like she was going to pass out. They had been running for too long. Emma pushed Jessie into the bar ditch. The truck stopped and two men got out. They were dressed the same..... The same looking shirt, the same haircut. Jessie thought this was weird. Right before the men grabbed them, Emma hit one of them. The man grabbed Emma's arm and injected her. Jessie saw the man grab Emma and put her in the back of the truck. Jessie stood up then passed out from exhaustion.

When Jessie started to wake up, she heard the truck and smelled gas. Jessie opened her eyes and saw Emma at her lying by her feet. Jessie kicked her and she woke up. They were in the back of the truck. Jessie and Emma heard a girl yell, "they're awake." The truck stopped, and Jessie hit her head.  The girl opened the window in the back of the truck. The girl looked at Emma and asked: "what's your name?" Emma said, "I'm Beast, and she's Stud." The girl slammed the window, and the truck started to move again. Jessie asked, "Emma, why did you tell them that?" Emma said, "dad told me right before he died to never tell anyone my real name." Jessie thought this was stupid, but Emma already did what Dad said. Jessie sits up and watches out the back of the truck. She sees trees alongside the road. There must be hundreds of them, but they gradually grew less and less. Finally, there wasn't any at all. There was still a little grass, but not much. Jessie looked out to the hills and could see the orange-yellow sun peak over. Jessie's stomach ache from hunger. She and Emma had not stopped to eat the day before. Jessie watched the sky as the truck drove. It was almost dark when the truck stopped. The girl got out and she had a can of corn and some kind of meat. The girl fed them. Jessie was so excited to eat. However, the girl got back in the truck, and they started driving. The truck turned a corner and stopped. The two men got out and injected the two girls again.
Jessie woke up in what she thought looked like a shed. It was built out of old wood and the ground was just sand. There were many holes in the pieces of wood. Jessie looked out of one of the holes, and two guys walked by and scared her. The two men stopped and started talking. Jessie heard one of them say "do you think Stud is like 16 or 17?" The other one replied, "she's probably 16, and I don't think her name is really Stud." The first one says, "what about beast? How old do you think she is?" The other man replied, "probably 19." Then Jessie heard Emma say, "Jessie come here!" Emma was on the other side of the shed. Emma looked at Jessie when she gets over to her and says, "whatever happens, don't tell them your real name. If you can, just don't say anything." Jessie thought this was stupid, but she didn't tell Emma that. All the sudden they heard the door unlocking. The girl walked in and handed Jessie a plate of food. The two men came in and took Emma. Jessie was scared, but she ate her food anyway. She sat the plate in front of the door. She paced back and forth at the back of the room. Hours later the men had not yet returned with Emma.
They brought Emma back and threw her in the room. Jessie ran to her. She had bruises and scratch marks on her. She had burns on her, too. The two men grabbed Jessie and carried her out of the room. Jessie was afraid of what was going to happen. They were walking towards a house. Jessie looked around; there were no other people there. The two men took Jessie into the house. Jessie was surprised at how normal the house looked. It reminded her of her house before the fighting. Jessie could smell something. It was a familiar smell. It smelled like her mom was making cookies. The men took her down a long, dark, hallway. At the end of the hall was a red door. The men opened the door and set Jessie inside then shut the door. Jessie looked around at the room. There were no windows just like her room used to be. There were curtains on the wall. Jessie moved the curtain and saw what looked like a map, then she heard footsteps and she hurried and sat down at the table. There was a big plate of cookies at the table. Jessie took one as the girl walked in and said: "do you like my cookies?" Jessie nodded her head yes. The girl asked Jessie a bunch of questions, but Jessie wouldn't talk. Jessie started thinking back; she was thinking about 'walking into her old house. She smelled the cookies her mom would make. She looked over and saw her dad watching football on the couch. She walked over and says "hi" to him. Her mom called her and Emma from the kitchen. She gets a cookie as she walks into the kitchen. She watched her sister run down the stairs, and try not to fall.' flash forward. 'Jessie and her sister are in the back of a car looking back at their dad, driving. It was almost sunset. Jessie waves at her dad. Her dad waves back. They hear a gunshot hit the tire of his truck. Jessie and Emma watch as their dad and mom rolled the truck. The truck rolled 17 times.' Jessie looked at the lady and started crying. The lady yelled "she's not talking! Take her back!" The men came in and grabbed Jessie. They started to walk her back to the shed. As they walked out the door, Jessie thought she saw someone run around the house. The man opened the shed and threw Jessie inside. Jessie heard the door slam and lock. Jessie sat up and saw Emma sitting in the corner. Emma was digging a hole. Jessie ran over to help her. As they were digging, they heard the men coming back. Emma grabbed Jessie and said, "I love you." Jessie said, "I love you,  too." Emma says, "Go out the hole. Run as far as you can. I'll find you someday." Jessie says, " No!" Emma shoves Jessie out the hole. Jessie looks around and sees the road and starts running. Jessie is thinking as she gets on the road, "I have to keep running!"
