Yata, Fushimi, and Shadow all moved in together after middle school. Each doing their own thing, Shadow continued school while the other two worked. It was a Friday night and the three were gaming. It was an average occurrence for the three on non-work/school nights. Fushimi was getting bored quickly of their fighting game and went back to tapping at the keys on his computer doing whatever it is he does. Yata and Shadow though were tied and neither side wanted to give. Fushimi technically beat them both already but since he quit early the two decided he didn't count anymore.

Every round seemed to end in a draw causing annoyed sighs to leave the two. Hours went by, Fushimi bid the two goodnight, although he was sure to insult them both before disappearing. Something the two ignored for the game, refusing to lose focus for the other to steal a win. It was three in the morning when the two realized they weren't really playing the game anymore. Both just tiredly pressing buttons that resulted in nothing. It seems the night would end in a draw. Shadow, always the more mature one out of Yata, and herself turned off the game ignoring the groan that came from her good friend. She then proceeded to flop onto him, again ignoring his tired groan. He usually hated it when she made physical contact with him, although they can talk easily now it took all three years of middle school to get him there. Touch was still a rocky thing for him but when he was tired like this he didn't seem to mind it anymore.

Shadow let herself smile a bit as she enjoyed being able to have her back against his strong chest. Just listening to him breathe seemed to cause her sleepiness to grow. She was just about to fall asleep when he finally spoke up, "Why'd you hafta shut off the game? It's still a tie you know."

Shadow let out a small chuckle, "No one is winning tonight, well this morning and you know it. The fact it took you so long to say anything about it confirms we're too tired."

Yata let out an irritated huff, he knew Shadow was smarter but boy did he hate being wrong, "Fine, then why are you laying on me? You know I hate it."

"Perhaps you're not as tired as I first thought, you usually don't mind when it's late", Shadow mused mostly to herself, not giving Yata an answer.

"I'm usually too tired to say anything about it, it's weird you know? Couples do this shit, we're just best friends", Yata let out a shrug, his body slightly tense now that he's more aware of things. He could feel Shadow's form freeze against him at that.

She bit her lip and refused to make any move to look at him. The boy was oblivious that's for sure, they were only sixteen though, and with his little experience, well, she shouldn't have been surprised, "Do you ever want to date someone?"

"I mean sure, I want to, but my fear of girls gets in the way. You only got so close because you refused to leave me and Saru alone", his eyebrows furrowed a little. Shadow never asked about dating before, maybe the time was getting to her?

"What can I say", she shrugged lightly against him, "You caught my eye. Sometimes you meet someone and know you need them in your life."

"Need them? Sure it's not want them?" Yata joked a little, his voice lightening up.

"Yes, I'm sure. You and Saru are very special to me, it was worth the effort to befriend you two", Shadow smiled lightly at the memory of chasing Yata down a hallway their first year demanding friendship.

He chuckled at that, his hand finding its way to her messy cherry hair rubbing it. He didn't do that much but the contented sigh she always made when he did told him he should do it more, "Effort? You chased us down."

"Yep, it worked right?" She chirped, nuzzling into his chest more.

"Yeah... hey! Stop getting comfortable, you never told me why you lay on me!" Yata scowled, his hand stopping to get an answer from her.
