Roger turned away, shielding his eyes from Medusa's gaze. One look into her eyes will turn him into stone forever.
"Oh calm down," she whispered. "My powersss can't work in thisss realm. Be fortunate you're inssside that cage from me."
Roger glared at her.
Medusa still looked the same, except something completely ripped apart her raggy robes, showing off her entire green flesh. Her long snake hair hissed while moving like worms. Barefoot with little ashes on her skin, and her serpent eyes glimmered in the burning light.
This was the monster who started it all, releasing the Greek monsters upon the Earth. So many people lost their lives because of her. All because she wanted the gods to return for vengeance. And now he was trapped inside a prison, hanging next to her.
"Maybe you should be lucky I'm not in there with you," he said, keeping his tone venomous.
Medusa laughed. "Even without my powersss, I am ssstill ssstronger than you."
"You wanna bet?" Roger wished he could break from his cage and strangle the monster's neck until her head pops off. She caused the death of his fellow officers and chief.
Medusa laughed and slid her long legs through the bars, sitting up to face him. "I would love to sssee you try. Hehehe."
Roger swallowed his pride down. He knew he couldn't do it.
"For my curiosssity, how did you come here?" Medusa blinked her eyes. "Did you fail to kill my titan?"
Roger gave her a little smirk. "Well, I hate to disappoint you. I killed him before he destroyed my city."
Medusa pursed her lips. "What a pity. However, you probably died for nothing. If you had sssucceeded, you wouldn't be here with me."
"I did, but..... We fell and appeared here."
"That Cerberusss wrench isss here too?" Medusa smiled a bit. "How amusssing. If you are both here, the monstersss in your world are ssstill crippling your pathetic civilizzzation. Either way, you failed."
Roger glared. "You don't know that."
"Oh, you truly believe your human warriorsss can defeat millionsss of monsters who can level a city in short daysss? You may have greater technology, but my kind have greater power. Your defeat isss inevitable."
Roger rubbed his brows, feeling like Medusa was annoying him. Burning in heat was enough torture for him. "And why are you here? Isn't Acrisius your friend?"
Medusa curled her toes. "I asssked him to be hisss queen for freeing him. But he wasss a heartless double crosssing bassstard! He wanted to control me like hisss other lackeysss. I ssspat in his face and he left me here to sssuffer." Her hands gripped on the bars. "He will never control me like a ssslave! Without my free will, my vengeance will never sssucceed!"
"But here you are. Earning the punishment you deserved."
Medusa hissed, turning her head from Roger. "I may have underessstimated him, but I do have a plan to essscape from here."
Roger raised an eye-brow. "How?"
Medusa smiled. "I did it before, and I can do it again."
"You didn't answer my question."
"Watch me." Medusa rose, pulling her legs into the cage. She climbed to the top and held onto the roofed bars.
While hanging, she swung her legs up and slid them through the bars as her body slithered up. Her head slid through like a sponge, and then she stood on top, smiling at Roger.
Roger's mouth dropped.
He couldn't find his words to ask how Medusa managed to squeeze her entire body through the cage. Did she have no bones in her body?
Medusa waved to him. "Farewell, fool. If you weren't in there, I would enjoy ripping out your intestines and roast them over the magma. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
She grabbed onto the chain, holding the cage, and she clambered up toward the rocky ceiling. There was a wooden hatch at the top where the chain hung from. It was wider than the cage.
"Wait!" Roger shouted.
Medusa stopped halfway on the chain and gazed down at him.
"Take me with you!"
The green serpent woman laughed. "Why? Do you want me to rip you a part?"
Roger gripped his hands on the bars. "Do you honestly believe you can fight Acrisius alone?"
Medusa cocked her head. "You wisssh to join me?"
"I was about to say facing him alone is suicide. If he can put you here, what makes you think he will not do it again?"
Medusa hissed. "I have a plan, and I don't need your help." She continued climbing up. "But you can try to essscape and free Hadesss. Good."
When she reached the top, she pushed the hatch up and climbed through it.
That easy? Roger glanced up, spotting another hatch over his cage. If he could do the same thing Medusa did, he could easily escape too.
But what if Medusa decided to wait for him at the top? Planning to ambush him once he climbs to the top?
It would be risky to try, but what other choice does he have? He whether escape then stay inside the cage to get roasted alive.
Roger clambered to the top and squeezed his arm through. He tried squeezing his head first, but the gap between the bars was too small. How did Medusa squeeze through them?
Roger dropped down, sighing as his hope nearly faded. He stared at the front bars and pulled them.
The bars surprisingly bended a bit, but not wide enough to squeeze through.
Damn! I should have drunk more protein! Roger sucked in some breaths, flexed his muscles, and pulled the bars harder. His muscles burned as he gritted his teeth. He kept pulling and pulling, even if his arms could fall off.
When his arms snapped, he released the bars and rubbed his biceps. He had pulled a muscle, but his arms could still move.
Roger checked the bars and squeezed through. His upper body successfully slipped through, and he clambered up as his legs slid out.
Yes! He could escape now, and he quickly climbed up the chain toward the ceiling.
If he could get out through the hatch, then he will find Hades so the god could restore the Underworld and rescue the Cerberus. But if Medusa planned to attack him, he will be ready for her.
