C H A P T E R 11

Margot's POV

That day I woke up with a terrible headache, probably because of what I drank the day before.

After 100 years you have to get used again to alchool

-You're right Harley- I said and went to the bathroom, I needed a shower.

-Where do you think are my old friends and all the people I knew?- I asked.

They are probably dead but I don't know if someone is part of the experiment too

I tried to ask Selene what happened to them and if they were in the base or in this year too but she said she couldn't say anything because they were private informations.

I just finished to dry my hair and get dressed when someone rang the bell.

-Who could it be?- I asked.

Maybe Scarlett or Taylor... Or maybe the handsome guy

-Stop calling him that way!- I said laughing.

Why? I know you like him!

I laughed and opened the door: I was expecting to find one of the girls but instead there was Tom.

-Hi- he said.

-Hi! I wasn't expecting you- I said.

-If I am disturbing I can come back another time- he said.

-No you're not disturbing!- I said smiling -I was about to have breakfast, you want to join?-.

-Actually, I have a better idea- he said.

We went out for breakfast and he insisted to pay. I have to admit that I was surprised how so many things didn't change in 100 years.

-This world is so similar to the one I am used to!- I said.

-What were you expecting? Robots? Flying cars? That is sci-fi, my dear- Tom said and we both sat at our table, laughing.

I had a toast with cheese and ham and an orange juice, while Tom had eggs and coffee.

-While I was at the military base they told me what happened more or less in these 100 years- I said -I never thought so many things could happen-.

-The good thing is that now there are only two criminal groups in the city and they only fight one against the other in politics- Tom said -They do good and bad things to scare people and to make them feel safe at the same time-.

-Oh...- I said.

-You just have to pray they never do something when you are around- he continued -If you end in a court you will be guilty 99% even if you are innocent-.

-Yeah well that is not that different from the past, trust me- I said.

Suddenly we heard gunshots and men started running out the shop in front of the café where we were.

We were exactly in front of the shop window, so we could see everything.

-We need to leave now- Tom said.

-What? What is happening?- I said scared.

He took my hand and we started running outside like everyone else did.
I felt people running towards us and we run as fast as we could.

-Stay here- Tom said and helped me hiding behind a wall -I'll come back take you-.

He run away and the men followed him.
I started crying, what was happening?! Why did they attacked us?!

I don't like this! Stay calm Margot, take deep breathes!

-Not now Harley!- I said.

Suddenly someone grabbed my hand and I screamed but a hand went on my mouth.
I opened my eyes and saw the person who grabbed me: he was a man, tall, covered in tatoos.

-Well well- he said -Were you trying to hide?-.

-Please...- I tried to say through his hand.
He laughed, his grip ws even stronger; he approached his face to mine, smelling my hair.

-Please...- I said crying.

-Boss! Police is here!- another man said.

He smiled and then his hand let mine.

-Don't say anything about this, ok?- he said.

I nodded and he smile, running away.

I don't know how much time passed but at some point Tom came back and brought me back home.

I couldn't stop thinking about that man: who was he? And why did he leave me go?
