Dearest diary,
Being with Mary had been the greatest highlight of my life and I tell her that every day. I love the way her eyes shine like a rare jade-encrusted gem whenever she looks at me, her smile that just brightens up the whole room, her voice- oh her voice that I can't get enough of.
I love her.
I just wished we lasted until we were old and grey.
Sincerely,
Victoria..-.-.-.-.-.-.
A few days' letter reports came from the kidnapper's interrogation from the king. I took them as my thumb grazed over the paper.
I thoroughly read over the contents and couldn't help but slamming the desk in front of me. "Reports have stated that the princess's kidnappers were hired anonymously. And there's no trace to know who hired them?"
I shouted at one of the soldiers who delivered the report. "I need to talk to the king about this. Alastor wouldn't be so foolish to leave her daughter alone defenseless! The nerve of him- ugh!"
I tossed the report into the wall the papers flying everywhere as I kneaded the knot forming in my head. "What would Queen Ameria say... How sad would she be knowing that I'm... doing nothing to protect her daughter."
I slumped back into my chair as I worried. I should guard the princess- that works right? The border would be fine without me. They have Nikolai... I'm sure everything will be fine. "Right. This is to repay Ameria for all the good things she did."
I should at least preserve the legacy of the Queen. Meaning I have to protect the princess for as long as she lives.
With resolve in my eyes, I decided to knock into the King's office appointing a meeting beforehand. "General Crumwell, come in."
I opened the door and sat on one of the chairs. "King Alastor, if I may- the security in the palace provided concerns me. The guards there are inexperienced. I worry for the safety of the princess-"
"Is that all?"
What? My eyes twitched as he looked at me uninterested in the safety of her daughter. For all, I know the maids there are secretly assassins or mercenaries? But- he cast his gaze upon me about the safety of her daughter and thought of it as nothing?
"King Alastor, can't you see? She was kidnapped the day of her first ball! If I weren't there- what do you think would've happened?" I leaned in and smacked the desk out of rage.
Who is this man? He's no longer the friend I thought was. "What if Queen Ameria hears you saying that-"
"DONT. YOU. MENTION. THAT. NAME."
I was taken aback by the sudden hostility that he gave me. What happened to him? "Alastor, as your friend and General I see this matter important than my own life. I don't trust anyone in that castle. Not maids, not butlers, and not even the guards that are easy swayed by mere money."
He looked at my eyes in pain. He grabs a bottle of alcohol before returning to look at me in the eyes. "S-She... might not even be my child."
"What? What are you talking about? Ameria loved no one else but you-!"
He slams the alcohol bottle into his desk and shouted, "ITS WHAT EVERYONE HAS BEEN TELLING ME. THIS CHILD IS A MISTAKE. SHE DOESN'T EVEN LOOK LIKE ME-"
