*MILD CUSSING*
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAY!" I screamed as I walked into her house at 6:30 a couple weeks later.
"Hey!! You got here just in time to help us finish setting up!" She runs up and hugs me as I try to not drop my bags and her present.
"Alright! Alright! Lemme put my bags in your room and I'll meet you downstairs okay?" I laugh as she finally lets go of me.
I go drop my stuff off in her room which is just down the hall from their front door. I close the door behind me and head down to their basement which they finished the previous summer. Their new basement had a huge projector screen on the wall complete with surround sound. If you walked to the left there were two little bistro tables with four chairs around each. On the back wall there was a smaller version of their upstairs kitchen complete with a microwave, oven, and refrigerator. On the way towards the said kitchen, you pass a room with a Foosball table and pool table.
By 7:15 everyone had arrived.
Fall Out Boy was blasting through her speakers. College basketball was on her projector screen with a crowd of boys standing around. Selfies were being taken by almost every girl.
I was playing foosball with Kate as my partner and we were playing Luke and Michael in a heated game of Foosball, while some of our other classmates were (attempting) to play pool.
"Up the field! Down the field! Score! Score! Score!" Kate happily chanted as she spun the players.
"Kate shut up!" Luke, Michael, and I said in unison.
A couple minutes later, Luke and Michael had scored the final point which resulted in us losing 10-4.
"I bet you couldn't win if we switched!" I said pointing at the two of them.
"Is that a challenge?" Michael asked, his eyes gleaming with pride.
"You bet your ass it's a challenge!"
Kate and I swapped sides, got into position, and Kate put the ball in the hole. Within seconds it was 2-0 us.
"Michael Nicholas Haynes!" Luke said in desperation.
"I wasn't ready!" Michael wailed back.
"Did you just full name him?" I inquired laughing.
"If you don't stop, I'm going to full name you too." Luke threatened and I held my hands up in mock surrender.
The game continued with Michael interjecting every once in a while that one of our players was the "good one." But Kate and I ended up losing again 9-10.
"We'll get 'em next time Carli!" Kate exclaimed.
"Alright, but I'm gonna get a drink first!" I replied finally walking away from the dreaded Foosball table.
As I walked over to where the drinks are, I noticed Nate and Jay already over there.
"Hey guys! Great turnout Jay!" I say as I move towards the bottle of Mountain Dew on the counter.
"Thanks Carli! I gotta go see if my mom's gonna bring the brownies down soon, so I'll be right back!"
"She better! I've been looking forward to those suckers all week!" I hear Jay laugh as she stops to talk to some people on her way upstairs.
"So how're you liking the party, Nate?" I ask taking a drink of the fizzy goodness.
"It's good. There's a lot of people here." he remarks pouring Coke into a half filled cup of Mountain Dew.
"What are you doing?" I ask in disgust.
"Here. Try some." He holds the cup out for me to take a drink.
"It looks gross."
"Just take a drink Carli!" I giggle a little before taking a sip.
"Oh my god! That's really good!" I exclaim in pure shock.
"I told you so."
"Oh hush you." I reply to his cockiness before I head over to a group of my other friends playing Heads Up.
After about seven rounds of doing song lyrics, we switched over to 'Accents and Impressions.'
My friend Nicole had the phone on her forehead and we were screaming accents and stuff about the places at her until she finally got to Morgan Freeman. Now we have this joke in our theology class that Morgan Freeman is "literally God," so naturally that's what I said.
"He is literally God!"
"Oh my god, Morgan Freeman!" Nicole shouted back.
We all screamed a chorus of "yeah's" so we could get more cards in before the time ran out. After the time did run out, we all took a break and I went to get another soda when I noticed people going outside. I was curious about what they were doing because it was 26 degrees (Fahrenheit) outside and there was still snow on the ground from earlier in the week. I decided to go investigate because it was getting a little hot in Jay's basement.
The second I close the door after I step outside, I get pelted in the face with a snowball. I brush the snow off of my face, out of my curls, and look around to see who's ass I'm going to kick. I spot Nate doubled over with laughter and I charge him.
Once I get closer, he realizes what's going on and grabs me as I get within his reach.
"AH! Nate Corbin put me down!" I scream as I begin to swat at his back.
"Never!" He laughs back and begins to spin.
"NATE!" Thump. "Oh I know you didn't just throw me on the ground."
"I think I just did." He smirks at me.
"Okay. Will you at least help me up?"
"Sure." He sticks his hand out to help me up, I grab his forearm and yank him down with me.
"You pack quite the muscle for such a little girl, Carli." Nate sits up and chuckles.
"I am not that little!" I exclaim slapping his arm lightly.
Nate stands up. "Will you promise not to pull me down this time?"
"Yeah I promise." I reply with a smile. Nate helps me up and I offer him another smile.
"Shit your hands are freezing!" Nate says grabbing a hold of my right hand.
"Yeah." I sheepishly reply.
"Here." I shoot him a confused look as he releases my hand. He starts to unbutton his red plaid shirt to reveal his white wife beater underneath. I open my mouth to ask him what he's doing when he grabs both of my hands and places them on his waist.
"Oh my god! You're so warm!" I say in shock.
"And you're hands are really cold." Nate smirks then laughs.
"How the hell are you so warm?" I ask.
"I'm warm blooded."
We continued talking casually in the freezing weather with my hands on his hips for a while until I went back inside to get something to drink.
"Carli, why are you talking to Nate?" Nicole asked after she stopped me.
"Because we're friends?" I reply confused.
"But you hate him."
I sigh. "Nicole I know what I'm doing."
"Girl, you better."
I shake my head and walk over to the drink and food area and grabbed a brownie and a water.
By 11:30, Jay and I were the only two left.
