Bearclaw looked at the pale tom and hissed. Eaglewing moved away from Bearclaw with his ears back. Bearclaw lunged at Eaglewing, pinning him to the ground. "What are you doing on Lighteningclan territory?!"

"I-I didn't know I was on your territory! I was chasing a mouse!." Eaglewing struggled to get out from under the bigger tom but to no avail. Bearclaw hissed but was too tired to deal with the intruder.

"You're lucky that I'm tired." Bearclaw released Eaglewing and sat back down by the pond. The small warrior moved closer to the other clan's deputy, causing him to hiss. "Get off my clan's territory or I will attack you."

"You're too tired to attack me, besides, I'd rather die than go back to camp." Bearclaw was shocked by Eaglewing’s words and turned to him.

"What do you mean?" There was silence for a moment as Eaglewing contemplated telling why. He sighed and sat down beside Bearclaw to look into the pond.

"My father sees me as a failure because I couldn't fight back. He sees me as only good at hunting and nothing else." Eaglewing looked at his reflection and hit it.

Bearclaw stayed silent. He watched the other tom glare at his reflection with hatred. "What's your name?"

"Eaglewing, but why do you care?" Eaglewing was right. Why did Bearclaw care? Maybe it was because he once felt that way too. Hated himself because he wasn't what his father wanted so he changed himself.

"I've been where you are. My father wanted me to change so I did." He looked down at his own reflection. "Now I don't even recognize myself. I've become a shell of what my dad wants."

Eaglewing gave the deputy a sympathetic look, feeling slightly bad for the other tom. He always used to think that Lighteningclan was full of heartless cats but this was proof otherwise.

The two toms fell silent, it wasn't the awkward kind of silence though. Eaglewing broke the silence after a few minutes. "We may be from different clans but maybe we aren't so different."

Bearclaw smiled a bit and then remembered the damage he did to the tom the previous day. "Are you ok? You know, from yesterday?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. My brother patches me up. He's the medicine cat, you know?" Eaglewing touched his herb covered wounds.

"My sister is the medicine cat." Bearclaw stated while watching Eaglewing. "My father is also the leader."

"Your father is Snowstar?!" Eaglewing jumped, making Bearclaw chuckle.

"Yep, he made me deputy after my mother died." Bearclaw looked back at the pond as he remembered his mother's death. Eaglewing rested his tail on Bearclaw's shoulder, comforting him.

"I'm sorry about your mother." Eaglewing felt Bearclaw lean into him. It was surprising but not un-welcomed.

"You don't need to be sorry." Bearclaw let out a cough, leaning away from Eaglewing to sit up. "Anyways, tell me about yourself."

"Well, my dad is Lionstar and my mom is Irispetal. I'm a good hunter but a terrible fighter." He laughed at himself. "I'm closer with my medicine cat brother rather than my other ones."

"I'm not close with anyone in my clan. You're probably the only cat I got along with and you aren't even part of my clan."

"Do you ever wonder why our clans separated?" Eaglewing questioned, turning to the bigger tom.

"Not really. I know the story." The smaller tom tilted his head, motioning for Bearclaw to continue. "Your father got greedy for power and gathered a group of cats to make his own clan. Your clan fights to take over the forest while we fight to bring the clans back together."

"Wow..I always grew up believing that my clan was the best but I guess I was wrong. We're nothing but power hungry monsters." Eaglewing contemplated everything he grew up believing.

"That's not true. You had no say in what clan you were born in. You're a great cat from what I can tell." Eaglewing smiled at the other tom's words. He leaned closer to him and purred.

"You're right." Eaglewing looked up at the setting sun. "I should get going. I need to catch something before I go back to camp."

"Ok, maybe we could meet here again sometime?" Bearclaw lept away, leaving Eaglewing standing there.

Maybe Lighteningclan cats aren't so bad. He thought as he made his way back into his clans territory.
