Getting up early on the next day, I welcomed the blissful morning. I could hear the chirping of pigeons as the morning sun greeted me. Rubbing my eyes, I gave myself a tight-lipped smile when I saw the headless spirit of Ansh Awasthy sleeping peacefully on the couch in my bedroom.

“What a perfect sight to begin my day with!” I muttered walking to the washroom. I realized my life had changed a great deal after all, I was spending nights with a headless ghost. Chuckling at my fate, I started my day with new enthusiasm hoping for the truth to come out. I despised the idea of my wife meeting the spirit of Ansh Awasthy because I did not want her to feel afraid in our own house.

Once ready for the day, I gobbled my breakfast and scurried to my office while the headless spirit followed me silently.

“Are you okay?” I probed the spirit.

“Thank you for making me realize my mistakes. I was a fool. I will go away from the Earth peacefully but I will miss you.” The headless spirit lamented frightening me. I wondered if he was planning to give me surprise visits and horrify me every now and then.

“Thank you for telling me what love is. I am the culprit of Priya. I have realized that I cannot change what has already happened but I will never disturb her in future.” The spirit of Ansh Awasthy made its decision with newly found determination and I patted on its shoulder.

We drove to my office wherein I summoned Radhika and Rahul in my cabin.

“Good morning, sir", my subordinates chirped like school kids as they slumped on the ergonomic chairs in my room. Working with young people had been always full of life, I realized and smiled.

“Do you believe in paranormal activities, spirits and ghosts, maybe?” I asked my best employees. Rahul glared at me suspiciously while Radhika shook her head hiding her smile.

Taking a deep breath, I narrated the supernatural experience I had with the headless spirit of Ansh Awasthy and both of them looked shocked.

“So the bottom-line is, I have an intuition that these Gupta brothers are behind the murder of Ansh Awasthy”, I announced while Radhika replied, “I feel that Priya is involved too after all, law and order never helped her".

“No", we heard a loud shriek. “She cannot do such thing", the spirit of Ansh Awasthy protested while my subordinates were terrified at sudden intrusion. I chuckled looking at their pale faces and discussed my plan to unravel the truth. Though, the plan was not at all convincing but we decided to go ahead with everything as we did not have any other option.

Soon, the arrangements of video recordings were made along with few important phone calls. We relished over the delectable meals from a nearby restaurant during the lunch time while I went to the Central Delhi Police Station to meet the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr. Rajesh Rai. It was difficult to convince the no-nonsense man for my plan but owing to the fact that we had worked together for a plethora of cases in the past, I was able to convince Mr. Rai to accompany me in the evening wherein I was trying to hit the target in dark.

So, the stage was set and all the preparations were made. Mr. Rajesh Rai was grumbling in my cabin oblivious to the fact that he was accompanied by the ghost of Ansh Awasthy who was slouching on the couch lazily. “Sir, Atharv Awasthy has arrived with his father, Randhir Awasthy”, the peon informed me while Mr. Rai stood up and rushed towards the investigation room wherein the arrangements were made for today.

Within half an hour, the Gupta brothers arrived too. I could sense the anxiety and nervousness they had on their faces as I escorted them to the investigation room. I was just waiting for Priya Vashisht to come. As the clock struck five thirty in the evening, Priya graced her presence while Radhika escorted her to the investigation room.

“Why are we all called here?” Raman grumbled glaring at me while Atharv reciprocated the same expression.
Priya had sweat beads on her forehead despite being present in an air-conditioned room. I smirked looking at her as she casted her eyes down on the floor.

“Where is my son?” Randhir Awasthy, an old man in his sixties, asked me with immense authority in his voice. His monotonous, authoritative and emotionless tone was unable to mask his love for his son.

I stood up and avoiding the intense gaze of the old man that had fathomable father’s love, I revealed, “I hate to break it you, but Ansh Awasthy is no more".

With tears in his eyes, Randhir Awasthy cried his heart out refusing to accept the fact that he would never see his son again.

Stuttering and hiccupping, Atharv reiterated, “My bro.. brother is not any.. anymore”, as he rubbed his father’s back.

“Mr. Mishra tell me that you are lying”, Atharv lamented and I wished the same too but unfortunately Ansh Awasthy had lost his life perhaps, on that ominous Thursday when he did not return home.

I observed Priya, whose face was devoid of any expressions and all the Gupta brothers mirrored the same expression.

“I need to see my brother”, Atharv demanded with rage and defeat in his eyes. His painful expressions were fathomable. He was controlling his emotions after all, his pain of losing his own brother was comprehensible.

“The murderer is present in this room", Rahul announced and all the eyes were onto him.

Atharv Awasthy glared at me with an expression of disgust and hate as if, it was me who killed his not-so-innocent brother.

“Why are we called here?” hollered Raman attracting attention of everyone present in the room and I replied glaring at him, “Because, I found the whereabouts of your car, the same car you had brought with your hard-earned money”.

“Mr. Mishra, what is this new drama?” bellowed Atharv in a trembling voice.
I glanced at Shekhar, who was sweating profusely. I decided to end the drama soon after all, I was unknowingly playing with emotions of a father who had lost his son, which was indeed, wrong.
