MINA HAD WOKEN up with a strained muscle in her neck, not the best way to start the day she had discovered.
She had risen from her comfortable bed and then immediately sank back down in pain, clutching her neck as a cramp rose at the base of her neck.
Groaning, she massaged the sore spot, before throwing caution to the wind and quickly popping her neck. She sighed in relief as most of the pain subdued, though the area still hurt but now the pain seemed manageable.
She got up again, this time standing fully and stretching her arms up, feeling her body relax as she lowered her arms. She yawned, unrumpling her sleeping shorts from a bunch at the top of her legs, before rubbing her eyes and grabbing her phone.
Mina checked the time, and upon seeing it was only 7:30AM, decided she would give her favorite person a quick call. She clicked his contact and as the phone rang, she made her way to her kitchen and stared expectantly at the phone. He would be in a load of trouble if he didn't pick up.
She grabbed a drinking glass as her call connected and she smiled stupidly. She quickly put her glass and phone on the counter and rested her elbows against it, tucking her hands under her chin.
"Hey." She said, biting her lip to hide the wide smile that was staring to hurt her face.
"Hey." Her boyfriend Shaun greeted back, his voice sleepy and slow and Mina cocked her head to the side, wondering if she had woken him.
"Did I wake you up?" Mina asked worriedly, grabbing her phone and sitting on the floor, suddenly annoyed at herself. "I'm sorry! I can hang up right now if you want."
She heard him laugh and her stomach filled with butterflies. Two years of dating and a small laugh from him still sent her blushing.
"No, no, you're fine. I've been up for a few minutes, just not up up, in the technical sense of the word."
Mina smiled, tracing the hardwood floor beneath her delicately. "So I didn't interrupt your beauty sleep?"
He laughed again and Mina pictured his soft, sweet smile and she suddenly regretted not spending the night yesterday.
Mornings with Shaun were her favorite, not counting the rest of the times they spent together. He would usually wake up first, though only a few minutes before Mina and when she would find herself awake, she would open her eyes the slightest bit to look at him. She would find him looking down at her with the most loving expression on his face, tracing her arm gently and just looking at her.
She would stay still for a few minutes, not wanting to break the magic spell that seemed to tether Shaun to her, that made her feel so beautiful when he looked at her with such softness. Then, she would make a big show about waking up, yawning dramatically and throwing her arms out, pretending to stretch. He would immediately attach himself to her and suffocate her with a tight hug and many, many kisses before breaking apart to get up.
