The repeated beeping of his alarm woke him at 9am the next morning. 4 hours until he had to meet up with Aren. He wished the day away, he just wanted to meet up with Aren again. Even though they were in the same class at school, on the weekends Aren was usually busy and Kaidou always missed him ferociously. He decided to practice the piano to pass time, the sound of music sung into his ears and he breathed a sigh of relief. His life was good and he appreciated that.
He checked his watch. 12.30pm. Kaido quickly slipped on his outfit. A black t-shirt, massive cargo pants and a few silver rings and necklaces. He told his mom he'd be back soon and rushed out of his house to get to the park. He bought a couple of drinks on the way just in case Aren felt thirsty and touched up his appearance before entering the rusty green gates to the park. He liked Aren a lot. They were best friends. Kaidou knew he had stronger feelings for him, he just wasn't very confident in telling Kuboyasu how he felt.
His eyes searched the park for the pretty boy with deep violet hair until his eyes laid upon him. His heart skipped a beat. Aren was sitting on a marble bench examining the pagoda tree in front of him wearing a leather jacket, black sweatpants and studded doc martins. He looked really cool, his silky hair was glimmering in the sunlight.
Carefully, he shuffled over to Aren on the bench, nudging him slightly. Aren turned to see him and blushed.
"Oh! Hey Shun,"
"Hi! How're you?" Kaido asked,
"I'm good. What about you? How was the concert?"
"The concert was actually good, barely ever do I understand the connection between a title and a performance so it made some real sense this time. Really cool to see you by the way!" Whenever Kaido talked to Kuboyasu, he found this new kind of confidence. He was easy to talk to and made him relax.
"Same, I barely ever get to see you on weekends since I'm usually busy."
"Yeah." Kaidou handed Kuboyasu a drink he bought earlier and received a nod of thanks. They got along surprisingly well even though they were so different.
"So, what did you need to ask me?" Kaidou asked curiously,
"Hm? What do you mean?"
"You know, when we phoned yesterday?"
"Oh!" he blushed, "Well, um, do you wanna come over to my house after school tomorrow and I can take you around town for the festival? All the couples are going at school and I thought that maybe you would..." Aren trailed off when he saw Kaidou staring at him in disbelief, eyes wide and a frown appeared on his face, "Nevermind, aha. Stupid idea."
Kuboyasu looked ashamed, frightened almost. Kaidou had never seen this side to him before. He patted Aren's shoulder tenderly, Aren looked up and into Shun's eyes. They were a beautiful crimson red, understanding, caring for him. Shun stroked his arm comfortingly,
"It's not stupid, I'd like to come." and he pulled Aren into a hug. They sat there for a while in each other's arms. It was secure, they could stay there forever, never let go. A kind of inside warmth that could only be felt with Aren by his side.
Kaidou's hand found its way over to Aren's and they sat on that bench for ages in a comfortable silence, Shun felt ecstatic earlier, but now he felt calm. Peaceful. Eventually, Kuboyasu got up,
"I should probably get you home."
Kaidou nodded wistfully but they both wanted to stay together forever and ever in this harmony, so they wandered around the park for a bit longer, hand in hand, until they eventually made it back to Shun's house. Just as Aren was about to leave, Kaidou spoke up,
"Thanks Aren." but Aren shook his head,
"No, no. I should thank you, Shun."
Aren strolled back dizzily over to his own house, in a daze.
