While she tried to sleep on the plane, her thoughts drifted elsewhere***
From a young age the girl wasn't like any other girl you'd meet. She felt sick when someone just mentioned the word 'dress' 'skirt' or anything girly for that part.
But as she got older she thought she finally got her life on rails, but oh boy was she wrong.
Even though she was more then 1 year away from her exams, the thought just killed her. Many people around her knew what they wanted to be. May it be something in the army, a veterinarian, a doctor or the owner of a restaurant.
But when people asked the young Rhea she always shrugged her shoulders which told the world that she didn't know.
There were so many paths she could choose back then, her grades being good for the circumstances, but she knew she could do better.
One afternoon while watching a movie and chatting with some friends, more helping them she realised.
All her friends felt stressed, and felt like suffocating from the pressure they felt. Herself included, even though the stubborn girl would never admit this. She felt like she had to please people, to talk to them to maintain their interest. Not talking for four days would make them lose interest she thought.
So she pushed herself
To the absolute limit.
And she knew this would get to her, hell, she already had this once. During het therapy she started happy, but each appointment the brightness in her eyes dimmed more and more, until one appointment which was supposed to be 45 minutes, suddenly took 1 and a half hour.
Most of that time (the entire time) crying and letting her feelings out. She tried to help so many people, all because she didn't want to feel her own feelings, trying to push these away.
But that one appointment let everything out. All the tears, heartbreak, pain, sleepless nights and voices in her head.
But skip forward to her trying to help er other friends. And what this one girl said to her make her think. 'Rhea, I don't know if anyone told you this, but do you know how amazing you are?', the reason she said this, was because Rhea could apparently calm them down, sounding like a adult as she heard loads of times.
But that one sentence filled her mind when it was empty. But then she realised.
She didn't care what she would become when she was older, as long as she would make a difference, a positive one. May it be through helping people in hospital, or standing beside a circuit. May it be becoming a actress and showing the world what she got, or just be there for her loved ones, writing and letting her feelings out.
She didn't care, as long as she'd make a difference.
So that night, while watching this random movie for school, she got one step closer to her future.
She wanted to make a difference, she wanted to be known for making a positive difference, for being a positive influence.
But with realising this part, she also realised another thing. She was afraid of opinions from the ones surrounding her. She would never know how to tell them, and she was afraid of what they would think about it.
They could either support her or... say everything she didn't want to hear. And honestly? She was terrified of that.
This thought would be in the back of her head forever. Changing every single time. From just horrible opinions, or the disappointment she could bring upon her loved ones.
She sighed deeply, her thoughts fading away slowly when she heard a soft voice behind her.
***Her flashbacks disappearing in front of her, while she was eye level with the boy with curly hair.
'You still with us Rhea?' she heard again.
She suddenly shook her head, confused, while her cheeks turned a soft red. She tried to avoid contact with the boy, but eventually let out a loud sigh before looking him straight in the eye.
He saw one small tear falling down her cheek, which he was quick to wipe away. 'Are you okay Rhea?' he said softly before lowering his head in front of her slowly.
She nodded slowly and sniffed her nose.
'Just... Thoughts.. You know?' she said with, insecurity filling her voice. He just nodded and gave her a warmhearted smile, which she returned gladly.
Happy that he didn't push her to tell him, while he stood up.
She looked at the floor, when suddenly a arm appeared in front of her. She looked up at the curious boy, holding out his arm for her to take.
At her questioned face, he laughed softly: 'Grab my arm you weirdo, we have places to go' he said while shaking his arm like a child.
She laughed at him, and took his arm while shaking her head, leaving the plane together.
Suddenly she pushed his shoulder a bit: 'Don't you dare call me weirdo by the way! You're the weirdo', which made him snort loudly. But what he didn't notice was his face turning red because of the snorting. She tried to hold in her laughter, but when one sound escaped her mouth, and he gave her a confused look she couldn't hold it in any longer.
'Oh my god Lando you look like a tomato right now', she said, almost screaming the last part trying to run away from the boy, who was obviously faster then her.
