Chapter 4: Why I care

"When I first played the piano for you I knew you were special, you see I grew up in a sophisticated family which was known for it's music. My parens did not treat me well since my older brother was always the better son."

"You had a brother?" Maka asked interrupting Soul's story.

"Yes I did but thats not the point." Soul snapped irritated he was sort of tired but he knew Maka would not stop at anything to hear his reasoning.

"Ok then...you can move on now." Maka said waiting for him.

"One day my mom and dad asked me to compose a song about myself and I took this as a chance to show my parents how they treated me. I ended up creating that song you heard on the first day that we met. When I told my parents that I was finished they encouraged me to play it live, all I got after I finished was scared looks. From that day on I vowed to myself to never show my true side again that was until I met you.

When we first met you seemed so eager to be my meister so I thought if I were to be your weapon you would have to know my true self. After I finished playing the song I expected you to be intimidated like the audience I played for that day, but you seemed interested." Soul explained before he was interrupted again

" I wasn't intimidated because I thought you were different than all the guys I met in my life, you were special to me in that way." Maka interrupted again trying to explain her own little bits of her experience when they first met. Soul nodded and continued where he left off.

"At first I thought you where playing a prank but you held out your hand and showed me that you weren't kidding. You were the first person to get me for me and I knew I could not let someone as important as that leave me or die, I had to protect you and keep you alive...... Thats pretty much it." Maka gave an affectionate smile.

"Thanks for telling me." She said softly. Soul let out a heavy sigh, it was nice to get everything off his chest." Now that you told me everything, do you think you will stop having these nightmares?" Maka asked curiously.
" Maybe, you can never be sure." Soul answered looking up at the ceiling keeping it cool.

"Well if you do please talk to me I'm your meister and more importantly I'm your friend." She said as she stood up and gave Soul a smile. She turned around and suddenly Soul realized something. All the feelings towards her and the fact she was the first to truly understand him, Soul couldn't realize it before but now he did. He loved Maka. He did not know if now was the right time or if he should even tell her but he was baffled that this did not come to himself earlier.

"Maka?" Soul asked quietly. Maka turned around and looked at him curiously. Did he not tell me something important. she thought to herself. I swear if this is just something that he skipped before because he's "too cool" for this! She rolled her eyes a bit but Soul did not seem to notice
"What is it? Did you not tell me something?" Maka questioned trying to cover the fact that she was a bit irritated with his attitude. Soul looked up into her emerald eyes sighed there was no turning back now.
