~Little League~
"Yoongi, Yoongi, Yoongi!" Bella sang as she entered the apartment, kicking off her shoes and sliding on the wooden floor on her socks until the aforementioned came into view.
Yoongi, who had been peacefully munching on a nectarine whilst perched on the kitchen counter, paused with the fruit still placed against his lips, his eyebrows raised as he stared at the girl's shoes that were on opposites ends of the living room.
Bella followed his flitting eyes and cowered inwards, retreating to put her shoes on the rack in the entrance hall. When she returned to her roommate, Yoongi had taken a bite of his fruit and was now bouncing it between his hands.
"You were saying?" He queried, his eyes not leaving his nectarine.
"Hm?" Bella asked, her mouth falling open when she realised he was talking to her and not the fruit. "Oh! Guess what happened today!"
"Do I have to?" He murmured and Bella didn't miss the unusual irritation in his tone.
"What's wrong with you?" She asked instead, completely momentarily forgetting about her exciting news.
"Nothing," he answered, relaxing back against the wall. "Sorry, carry on."
"Oh right. I got a part time job today!" Bella exclaimed, jumping up to sit beside Yoongi on the counter.
"Really?" He perked up, feeling somewhat proud of his frenemy.
"Yeah. Coach said I've really been impressing her these past few weeks and she'd like me to teach the little league class for the rest of the semester! Isn't that great?"
"Wait, we get paid?" Yoongi exclaimed, jumping onto his feet.
"No, silly. Were you even listening to me?" Bella sighed. "I'm getting paid because I've been offered to teach the little league's gymnastics class!"
It was Yoongi's turn to sigh now. "Wanna know why I was so glum? I also got asked by my coach to teach the little league's basketball class today."
"Why would you be upset about that? We're getting money for it!" Bella chuckled, playfully pushing Yoongi's bicep.
"I wasn't told we'd be getting paid," he mumbled, making Bella burst out in fits of giggles.
"No wonder you failed Maths last year," she snickered. Yoongi rolled his eyes and turned his head so she wouldn't catch his smile.
"When are the basketball classes?" Bella asked after getting over her joke.
"Tuesdays and Thursdays from six-thirty till eight," Yoongi replied, sitting next to her once again.
"Oh really? The gymnastics classes are on at the same time!"
"Cool," Yoongi shrugged, hiding his excitement at seeing Bella in a leotard again.
~🥀~
Later that night, Yoongi found himself tossing and turning in bed, unable to sleep. He laid there for quite some time until he got thirsty. He creaked open the door to his room and was about to leave until he heard a voice.
Recognising it as his roommate's, he peaked out from his room and looked down the hall to see Bella pacing up and down the living room, holding a phone to her ear.
He was about to leave so he doesn't interrupt her call when he heard her say something that made him stay behind his door to listen.
"So you're saying that me teaching gymnastics is distracting me from the Olympics?" Bella whispered harshly to the person on the other end, completely fed up with her mother's manipulation and obsession.
There was silence for a few seconds until Yoongi heard her sigh. "Mother, any other parent would have been proud of their daughter for being noticed by their coach at such an early stage in the year and for getting a job that not only will help them gain experience in the real world, but will also allow them to continue training in order to reach their goal. If you don't think how you're behaving isn't normal, then don't speak to me until you realise it."
She harshly hung up the call and sighed again, sitting down on the sofa and rubbing her hands over her face. "You can come out now, Yoongi."
"You knew I was there?" Yoongi questioned, walking down the hall rubbing the back of his neck.
Bella hummed. "I heard your door open but never saw you come out. I assume you heard everything?"
Yoongi shook his head. "Only the last two bits. Your Mum is pretty hard on you, huh?"
Bella nodded. "You don't know the half of it, trust me. I'd tell you but I don't want to bore you. We'd be here all night if I did," she smiled pitifully and left to her room.
After a few seconds, Bella heard a knock on her bedroom door. "Can I come in?" Yoongi asked?"
"Fine."
The door opened and Yoongi walked in, sitting down beside Bella on her bed.
"Look, Bella, I'm going to be honest with you," he started. "We're going to be living together for a year at least; that's fact. So, we might as well try to get along. And we can't be friends if you keep pushing me away or shutting your emotions off. I may not know what you've been through in your life, but I want you to be able to trust me now; I'm a good, reliable friend, okay? I promise."
He paused, taking a deep breath in. "So, can you try to trust me?"
Bella stayed silent, allowing Yoongi's words to soak in. Once she was sure of her answer, she nodded.
"I will try, but on one condition," she said, holding up a finger definitively.
Yoongi nodded, confused but trying not to show it in order to stay positive. "Sure?"
"Can you make that ramen again?" Bella asked, a sheepish smile brightening up her face. It was a rare sight and Yoongi stared at her, trying to savour the image in his mind. "Yoongi?" She asked after a few seconds.
Yoongi shook his head, smiling. "Come on then," he said, nodding his head towards the kitchen as he got up.
