Chapter Two:
comfort crowd

—————

Drew stood there, brown eyes meeting sea green, nose turned up disapprovingly. "I can't believe you jackass. What the fuck were you thinking bringing her with you on your death wish of a quest?" she growled, hands scrunched in fists by her side.

Percy gulped, "Uhm... she could help, she wanted to help us—"

Drew's left index finger shot up, her eyes sparkling in anger. "Did I say you could speak?" she snapped, voice smooth and delicate, her mouth carved itself into a sneer, one that contorted the soft heart shape of her face drastically. "You endangered her! A titan? A fuckin' titan! How dumb are you, fish guts? That was probably the stupidest thing you've ever done in your life; do you know that? I'm— Gods, I could scream."

Percy's brows furrowed, his eyes darting away from Drew's face, instead focusing on a twig on the ground.

"Does she need your permission to go on quests though?" he grumbled. Drew's mouth snapped shut, eyes narrowing as she practically glowered at him. "I mean, she's perfectly capable of making decisions for herself, so why are you getting so mad at me? How about you hop off my dick for once and go and express your anger or whatever to her because I don't care Drew, I don't. She helped us get Annabeth back, she helped us defeat Atlas, helped us rescue a fucking goddess— shit, she even held up the sky— so she doesn't need you to dictate what she can and cannot fucking do!" he snarled, eyes darkening as he leaned closer to the daughter of Aphrodite, using the significant height difference to intimidate her.

His lungs ached with a fury he'd never felt before, his head hurt but he kept his glare sharp and focused on the tears wobbling at Drew's lash line. Good, he thought vehemently, go ahead and cry, make me the bad guy, I don't care.

The tears fell down quickly, and before he could comment, Drew had wiped them away furiously, cheeks glowing a bright red colour, her glare softening as she felt another wave of tears fall down her face.

"You happy now?" she huffed, tilting her head back. "You made me cry, well done, want a medal? What are you gunna do? Tell everyone I have emotions? Tell everyone I actually give a shit about people? That I'm not heartless? Go ahead, see if I care! I'm only mad at you because she didn't know shit about this quest until you practically kidnapped her, she wouldn't have gone otherwise! She wouldn't have left me if she knew how dangerous it was!" She sniffed, thumbs hooking under the hem of her shirt, pulling the fabric taut. "She could've died Percy, and I care about her too much to let that happen."

Percy frowned, Drew admitting she cared about someone was rare, he could see how shaky she was, whether from her anger or from being shouted at, he didn't know, but it wasn't fun to watch.

So he left, walking off so the guilt wouldn't eat him whole.

Drew watched him as he stalked off, her lungs heaving with each sob that racked through her body, breath catching in her throat. She turned and walked into the forest, letting the tears flow freely into the ground as she went. She stopped as she reached a small pond, eyes glazed as she fished a golden drachma from her pocket, murmuring a weak "Iris, goddess of the rainbow, show me Aphrodite, goddess of love."

The bubble was foggy for a few moments before her mother waltzed over, her bright smile faltering as she observed her daughter's appearance, dark eyes wide in shock. "Drew, baby, what's wrong?"

Drew sobbed louder, her mother's voice was soft and rich with elements of charm speak woven throughout. "She could've died on me mom, I... I can't have that happening, not to her. It's just... she didn't tell me she was leaving," another sob caught in her throat, "she could've died! She carried Atlas' burden for fuck sake, that's not normal, that's so dangerous and I— I refuse to let her die because Percy Jackson was too careless, I'll kill him, I swear to Zeus if she gets hurt because of him, I'll kill him."
