Chapter 3: A taste of combat

Sterben's Pov

I awoke to light shining in through my window. I got out of the bed and got dressed before exiting the room And heading towards the cafeteria.

After making it to the cafeteria, I went straight to the coffee before being surprised by Maria.

"Guten Morgen!" I recoiled and jumped at this, it was just out of nowhere and I didn't expect it.

"Jeez your so easy to scare I wasn't even trying this time" I rubbed my forehead letting out an annoyed sigh.

"Come on Sis it's to early for this" After, I grabbed A cup of coffee and walked to a nearby table with Maria doing the same.

After sitting down I took a large gulp of the black caffeinated drink and eventually zoned out, only to be brought back to reality by Maria.

"Hello Belka to Sterben you there?" I jolted awake after hearing her.

I looked back up at her. She had this slightly worried look in her eyes.

"Oh sorry guess I zoned out a bit there" She sighed at that before taking a sip of her coffee.

"You used to zone out a lot when we where growing up, but ever since we joined the military it seems every time I turn around your lost in thought with that dead expression on your face. Is everything ok Sterben?"

I was a bit taken aback by this. She was right, I guess I never noticed. I never saw it as a big deal though. I decided to try and change the subject to our training last night.

"Anyway how you holding up after last night?" This didn't clear the worried look on her face since I didn't answer the question but she seemed to relax a bit more.

"Well I'm still really sore and I kinda have a headache but besides that im fine. And you?" She began to rub her neck as she said this.

"Yeah I feel a little sore but im still fine" I took another sip of my coffee as Maria spoke up.

"How the hell can you pull that amount of G's and be fine I was straining myself just to keep up with you" I chuckled at this not entirely sure how to reply.

"I don't know I just can" That was really all I could say.

"Fine keep your secrets" She was quite for a second before speaking again.

"You hear about all that stuff going down between Emmeria and Estovakia?"

She was talking about the war going on there. Estovakia an extremely militaristic nation that borders Emmeria, launched an attack on the Emmerian capital of Gracemaria forcing the Emmerian forces to retreat losing their homeland. The same thing could happen to us, but we won't let that happen.

Suddenly I was brought back by Maria's voice.

"Hey Sterben wake up"

"Oh sorry spaced out again. Anyway we were talking about the war going on in Emmeria right? I hope Emmeria can take their capital back. I can't imagine how shameful it must feel to leave your homeland behind." Maria nodded.

"Yeah and if were not careful we'll lose ours." I got angry hearing her say that and I balled up my fists.

"No were not gonna lose anything, not to those fascists pigs!"

I could feel my blood begin to boil at the thought of those rebels flag flying over Dinsmark. I felt a hand on my shoulder, I looked up to see Maria that same worried look in her eyes.

"Don't worry we won't let them win were gonna stop them and push them out of our country." I closed my eyes and let her words settle in we aren't going to let them win.
