Chapter 12 | Bad Guy Car
It had been about a week since you had your 'date' with Eunwoo. Although you didn't want to admit it, a lot of what Eunwoo said rang very true. You knew that you couldn't wear Scent Blockers forever. You also did want to find your significant other, but you knew you couldn't do that until you successfully turned your life around. Just because you didn't care about your status or your label, you knew that it wasn't fair for your future significant other.
But the world is difficult, you had gone around to many different stores to find a part-time job but no one of them was willing to hire a person with a criminal record. It was to be expected though. You could easily go to Minho or Seokjin and ask for a job, but you didn't want to burden them. You got yourself into the mess, so you were going to get yourself out.
When you got rejected for the tenth time, that day, you decided to head home to rest and maybe call up Heechul, the warden of the prison that you were being held in. He had a lot of connections, and he did say to call him if you needed anything.
On your way home, something caught your eye. A black four-door sedan. Normally, cars illegally parking on the side of the road didn't bother you. But it looked too much like a bad guy car and the feeling in your gut was telling you that there was something wrong. Not to mention, all of the windows were tinted to the point it was nearly impossible to see inside.
Frowning, you made your way up to the car. You could see a slight silhouette of a person inside the vehicle. Without another thought, you knocked on the window of the passenger's side. There was a moment where nothing happened, but then the window slowly lowered.
It lowered only enough to the point where you could see the brown eyes of the man sitting in the driver's seat. He also had a hat on, which made him seem even more suspicious than before. With a frown, you pointed to a sign.
"This is a no-parking area," you told him, rather calmly.
Although your alarm bells were ringing, he technically didn't do anything to warrant you alerting the authorities or get into a fight with him.
Without another word, he just pulled his window up but made no attempt in leaving. You stood there dumbfounded. Sure, you didn't think that he was going to be happy about you telling him to move, but you didn't expect him to just flat out ignore you.
You bit the inside of your cheek, hoping to calm down and not make a scene. You were doing so well, not being hauled into the station for fights. You wanted to keep your streak. Letting in a breath, to calm yourself, you knocked on the window once again, a little harder.
The window dropped down again. This time a lot higher than it was before. Little things were ticking you off, but you were going to be the bigger person.
"Sorry, are you blind? Are you deaf? You can't park here. So get lost dipshit before I do something you're going to regret." Although you tried to stay calm, you couldn't help but grit your teeth at the man.
He didn't speak a word, he just grunted. He started the car and went on his way. You kept your eyes on the vehicle making sure to get the license plate of the car that was illegally parking. You knew that Seunghee was held against her will and so seeing a blatant bad guy car, you wanted to be on the safe side.
After the car was nowhere to be seen, you went into the apartment. You wanted to make sure that Seunghee was safe. You darted up to the apartment you were sharing with Hyojung and Seunghee.
You couldn't help but frown when you didn't see Seunghee in her usual spot on the couch. Normally, Seunhee would be sitting right in the center of the couch watching the TV or reading a book waiting for you to come home from your walks or Hyojung to come home from work.
"Seunghee?" You called out. A bad feeling settling in your stomach at the quiet house. "Seunghee?"
You rushed to her room. She wasn't there. You went to the next place you could think of Hyojung's room. You tried to keep yourself from panicking.
When you opened the door to Hyojung's room, you saw a small lump in the middle of the bed, under the covers. It was too small for it to be Seunghee's human form. You could feel the anger rising in your body once again. Something happened when you were out looking for work and you were pretty sure it had something to do with that suspicious car.
"Seunghee-ah," you said softly, not wanting to frighten the small bunny even more.
The lump moved around, and Seunghee, in her animal form, peeked out from under the blanket. If the situation wasn't bad, you might have swooned at the cuteness. "Can I come in?"
She nodded.
You slowly made your way over to the bed. "What happened? Can you tell me?" Your voice was still quiet. You didn't want to make any sudden or loud movements.
She shook her head.
"Do you need some more time?"
She nodded.
"Okay, I'll be in the living room. You can talk to me when you're ready."
You walked out of Hyojung's room and closed the door behind you. You were able to keep your anger in check while talking to Seunghee, but now you needed answers. The first one: who the hell was driving that car?
"Hey ... Yeah, sorry. I was too busy getting hauled into the station ... You know me ... Yeah, he's doing well. He asked for your number- ... Of course, I didn't give it to him ... Pffh. Well, you need to figure that out on your own ... Yeah, yeah ... I have a favour to ask you ... Can you run a license plate and tell me who it belongs to? ... Thanks ... I'll message you the information ... Fine ... I know ... Don't starve yourself, okay? I'll order some food for you ... I might not have a job but I have a bank called Minho ... Alright, thanks."
You called your childhood best friend and fellow convict, Sungjae. Ever since you were in elementary school you, Sungjae and Eunwoo were joined at the hip. You did everything together. Of course, things changed with time and Eunwoo becoming a detective but one thing stayed the same, your bond.
You didn't call the detectives or Hyojung. You didn't call Hyojung you knew the type of person Hyojung was. She was the type of person who wore her heart on her sleeve. If she was worried about something, everyone in her vicinity would know about it. Knowing that it was going to affect her work, you decided to tell her when she got home.
The detectives were a different story. You wanted to call the detectives as soon as the whole incident happened but if there was one thing you hated, it was wrongful convictions. When you were in prison, you met a lot of Hybrids and Humans who were convicted wrongfully. It always made you angry listening to those stories. So, naturally, you wanted all the answers before going to the police.
It wasn't that you couldn't trust Jimin and Namjoong. You did trust them. Most definitely. It was just that you wanted to know all the facts before letting them know. You didn't want them to look into a completely wrong lead. And besides, you had the means to look into it. And his name was Sungjae.
This was also another reason why being a detective wasn't the path for you. When you were looking into something or someone, you didn't care if it was done the illegal way.
Now all you had to do was wait for Sungjae to find as much information as he could on the guy who was driving the car.
