"Hurry up, Carrie Anne! You and Jia have to go to school soon!" My host mom yelled from downstairs, as I put on my sandals in my bedroom. I'm living at the Fang's family house, they're my host parents. They have a daughter named Jia Li Fang, who is also gonna be in the same school as me, she's a sweetheart and treats me like a sister. They have all been nice to me ever since I arrived at their home. I'm a foreign exchange student from Denmark, I'm studying here in the US and hopefully stay here after graduating. The course I'm taking is Home Economics. I'm a bit interested in learning all kinds of subjects, I'm up for anything to learn. I've been loving living here so far, now I can't wait to study here and see what the world would give me. I grabbed my bag and books and went downstairs in the living room to see my host parents and their daughter Jia waiting for me. "There you are! I thought you're not going down anytime soon" my host mom said. "So sorry, Mrs. Fang. I'm just anxious about how I look, I don't want to look terrible for my first day in an American school. It won't happen again" I said in embarrassment, I do not want to cause any trouble especially to my host family. She and her husband chuckled "It's completely fine, dear. I know how that feels since we all have been there. Now go! You don't want to be late" I smiled and nodded, Jia and I said goodbye to them and got on our bikes then headed to school.
We just arrived at school property. We parked our bikes at the bike rack, I grabbed my books at the basket then Jia and I walked away from the rack. "So Carrie, how are you feeling?" Jia asked. "I'm nervous but excited. Can't believe we are here" My hands are pretty much sweating from that nervousness, but I'm mostly excited. The campus looks huge, it's not like what I see in the picture. I bet being here will be the best thing that will happen in my life.
We got inside the school, everyone in the hallways is either getting something from their lockers or talking to their friends. I observed around the place, everything looks interesting to me, maybe to them it's just a normal school but I never seen anything like it before. While I was amazed by everything I see I got interrupted "What's your first class? I'll take you there" Jia asked. "Oh, I think Chemistry - " Jia nodded then brought me to that class. "Here it is! Sadly we don't have the same classes but I'll still be around, if you need anything just come to me alright?" she said with a smile, I nodded and smiled back at her. I walked inside the classroom, I saw a few students playing around and some were on their seats. I looked to see if there's a desk available, luckily I saw one next to a guy who was talking to someone. But I'm not entirely sure if the desk is taken I should probably ask. I walked towards the desk placing my books down "Excuse me, uh sir?" I said to the brown headed man, but he didn't hear me. I should try again but a little bit louder. "Excuse me! Is this seat taken?" this time he heard me. He flinched a little bit, then turned around facing me "Oh I'm sorry - no, it's not taken, it's all yours if you want!" he said with the most adorable smile I've ever seen. He looks handsome. Usually I don't fall for guys easily, but he is just wow..
"T-thank you so much!" Why in the world I stuttered. It's just a guy I'll get over him in a day or so. "You're welcome! Oh and are you new here? I'm Ray Blent by the way" He offered a handshake. "Yes I am, I'm Carrie Anne Jensen. I'm from Denmark" I beamed, handshaking him back. I look at his dark brown eyes, I must say his eyes look mesmerizing. He probably has a girlfriend, I mean come on, whoever that girl is she's lucky to have such a handsome man. "Good Morning, students. I'm Professor Charles Osman. Please take your seats" Dang it, the Professor is here I wish I could look at his eyes longer. "We should probably listen to him," Ray giggled. I nodded and smiled. I sat down at my seat just like everyone else in the room. "So, we have a new student from Denmark, her name is Carrie Anne Jensen. Stand up and say hello, Ms. Jensen" I did what he said, I stand up and wave awkwardly at everyone in the room. I probably look like an idiot right now but oh well. I immediately sat down after that. "Let's start our lesson, everyone open your book at page 6" Professor Charles said as he started writing something on the chalkboard. I turned the page at page 6 like he told us, I brought out my pouch where I put my pens and pencils, I took a pencil then closed the pouch after. "Psst. Carrie, can I have a pencil? I think I lost mine" Ray whispered. "Of course!" I opened the pouch again, grabbing my spare pencil I had handed it to him. "Thanks" He smiled. "You're welcome, Ray!" I'm star-struck, his smile is so cute. Maybe I'm going to sound dramatic but this day is already amazing.
After class
Chemistry class is finally done. I feel like I've been there for years. I didn't focus on Professor Osman's lesson that much, my mind is on Ray. Something about him makes me gush all over him. "Carrie!" Jia yelled as she saw me walking down the hallways. "How was your class?". "It was alright, just couldn't stop thinking about this guy I met in class.." I said as I let out a small giggle. "Ooo, Carrie Anne has a crush -" Jia teased. "It's not a crush, Jia. I just find him cute, that's all" Well maybe that's a lie, but I don't want to admit it. Like I said earlier, I'll get over him. "Okay, whatever you say. Can I know his name though?" I looked around the place to make sure he's not around. "Alright, just don't tell anyone especially that guy" Jia nodded in agreement, I pulled her arm taking her in the staircase where nobody's there to hear us. "His name is.. Ray Blent" I whispered quietly, even though no one is around but I'm still afraid someone might hear us. Jia widened her eyes in shock "You like Ray Blent?" She squealed "Oh my goodness, every girls love him, except me I only like his best friend of his -" I didn't expect that as an answer, it makes me wonder if he's a celebrity or some sort, and I don't know what's Ray's best friend look like, it was probably the guy who he was talking to in class but I didn't pay attention. "Yeah.. You made him sound like he's a celebrity or something" I said, Jia laughed "Because he kind of is! He's a basketball star here" she stated. That explains it, it's pretty cool he's a basketball player but didn't expect he's a star here. I mean I should have known, he's taller than me. "Wow, I'm guessing he has girlfriends and stuff" I assumed, a guy like that probably has a girlfriend, back when I was still learning in Denmark popular guys are like that sometimes. "Surprisingly he doesn't, he hasn't dated anyone actually. But he's a nice guy" she said. I mean he seemed sweet, I'm surprised he doesn't have a girlfriend. But why am I kind of glad about it. Oh no, I'm definitely not falling for him. No way that's happening. "Wow. Thank you for that information, Jia" I said then chuckled awkwardly not knowing what to say anymore. "You're welcome! But be careful, if you ever want to try to get with him you might have to worry about Debrah Blondell" she said in a worried tone. "I'm not sure if I do, but who's Debrah?" I asked. Jia sighed and looks around her place making sure no one's here "She's into Ray a lot, she'll hate every girl who tries to talk to Ray. Oh and she's really mean and fake. She starts to act nice when Ray's around, but when he's not around she switched to being mean" She whispered, I can see she's kind of terrified. "Oh my.. Does Ray even know about the stuff she did?" I asked, concerned. How can someone do such a thing? .. Jia shakes her head "No, he doesn't unfortunately" wow I'm surprised, I wished he'd know. We went silent for a few seconds, it was awkward but suddenly the school bell rang.
"Oh shoot, we better head to class" I said in a panic. "We better go" Jia and I went our separate ways and went to our classes.
