Blood Rainbows

I was never allowed to leave the

house by my self. Step Mom would

always drop me in school and pick

me up right after.  So I never had the

word friends and even if I was to

have, parents usually would hide

their kids from me because I looked a

little different from what they usually

saw or were used to.

Another Monday, Step Mom sat me

down in front of her dressing mirror

and brushed my hair. That was the

only thing about me she loved. She

loved the hair and not the person.

She would say "eat well Jade so your

hair can continue to shine". She

hardly let me stay outside too long for

fear that my hair that was white

would start to get darker.

I had on my school uniform which

Step Mom had ironed perfectly as

usual. At times I would think she was

a good person but I  knew that was

just a thought.

Step Mom never let me pack my hair,

so like today and every other day she

brushed my hair down muttering

something about  their not being

enough oil somewhere on my head.

Following behind her trail I entered

the car. I'm sure your wondering

whether I had eaten or not. No I

hadn't that was one thing Step Mom

never allowed she only believed in

onemeal a day and so that's what I

lived by.

I lived by her rules.

Once she got in she started the engine

and began driving down the slope

towards the town. Yes we lived a few

miles from civilization cause Step

Mom liked it quiet even I wasn't

allowed to scream or cry cause that

would call for some spanking. And I

hated being spanked.

On the journey to school I began my

usual chain of thoughts wondering

how life could have been different if I

had a father but they usually ended

up in tears so I just continued gazing

through the window till Step Mom

reached school.

Coming down she gave a nod and I

began to walk towards my class door
