Anahita Delfino used to have everything she could have wanted in the ocean. The sea monster girl had a loving mother who let her do whatever she wanted, a comfortable home which had everything that Anahita and her mom could possibly need and a pod (a group of sea monsters who she also treated as if they were her family) that always had Anahita and her mom's backs. Life in the sea was pretty much perfect.
However one day, when she was fourteen years old, that had all changed. Anahita was swimming in the ocean waters near the cove where her mom, her pod and of course herself lived, when all of a sudden, a group of land monsters, humans, dived deep into the ocean with diving suits on and spotted her. In a panic, she quickly swam back to her cove home, thinking that the humans would loose their strength of swimming while following her. But somehow, despite Anahita being a fast swimmer and despite the cove where the pod stayed being well hidden, the humans managed to chase her all the way to the cove and fine out where the pod was located. And now, because of her, they were all going to be killed.
But Valentia Delfino (Anahita's mother and the leader of the pod) wasn't going to let her daughter be killed at the hands of the humans. She grabbed a bag made of seaweed and quickly stuffed everything that Anahita would need into it, including a shell compact, which had an engraving of Anahita and Valentia on the inside of the upper lid. After giving Anahita the fully stuffed seaweed bag, Valentia told Anahita to leave the pod and go to an island where Anahita could be safe from the land monsters. An island called Isola Del Mare. Anahita, understandably, didn't want to leave her pod, especially her mom, but knowing that she would be killed otherwise, she knew she didn't have a choice. She hugged her mom one last time and quickly swam away as a human caught the mom and started to beat her to death.
Anahita, upset and alone, swam through the open sea and, after a few hours of swimming, made it to Isola Del Mare. Once Anahita climbed out of the water and onto the surface, she started to feel a weird feeling throughout her body. She confusingly looked at her hand and realized that it was now the hand of a human. And soon enough, she took the appearance of a pale-skinned human girl with short, dark brown hair.
When Anahita saw her human body in full for the first time, she was immediately reminded of the humans that killed her mom and her head started to ache at the thought of everything she just went through and everything that just happened. She'd never experienced something so quickly in her life. Then, she heard a voice. 'A human must be close by!' she thought, and she hid behind a rock so the human couldn't find her.
Anahita then started to question what her mother had said about there not being any land monsters on Isola Del Mare, but before she could really think up an answer, the human found her, which caught Anahita by surprise. The human was a boy who was the same age as Anahita and had tan skin, green eyes and goldish-blonde hair. Anahita tried to stand up and run from the boy out of panic, but since she didn't know how to walk, let alone run, she fell to the rocky ground after only a few steps. The boy then laughed as he caught up to Anahita and once he caught up to her, he said, "Wow. For someone trying to walk, you're really bad at it." Anahita turned her head away from the boy in distrust. The boy then asked, "Where'd you come from?" and Anahita caught a quick glance at him and answered, "Not like you need to know." The boy then reached out his hand and said, "Alberto. Alberto Scorfano. What's your name?" and after a second, Anahita grabbed his hand and said, "Anahita Delfino. But it's not like you need to know, human."
Anahita then let go of Alberto's hand and covered her mouth right after she said the word "human". She knew that Alberto would get suspicious if she said that. But instead of asking her more questions, Alberto just laughed and said, "Well, if I was human, then could I do this?" and immediately jumped into the water. But instead of popping up out of the water as a human, like Anahita had expected, he popped up as a sea monster with shining periwinkle scales and purple fins and "hair".
Anahita was in total shock. She had no idea that there were other sea monsters other than herself, her mom and her pod "You-you're a sea monster?!" Anahita asked. "Well, duh," Alberto responded, "If I wasn't a sea monster, then I wouldn't look like this when I touch water." He then asked, "Are you a sea monster too?" Anahita smiled in response and dived into the water, once again exposing her pale blue scales and medium blue and lavender fins and "hair".
"Huh, well I guess that answers my question." Alberto replied after seeing Anahita as a sea monster and after they dried off he said, "Dai! I want to show you my hideout! It's full of human stuff!" He then ran off and Anahita followed right behind him, even though she shuddered when Alberto said the word "human", because she was curious about what he had in his hideout.
'Maybe life on Isola Del Mare might not be that bad' Anahita thought as she followed him. 'Maybe it could be good!'
