The Day After

Since it was the weekend, we didn't need to be anywhere important. For most of the day we just sat around watching our favorite shows and movies.

"We should watch Twilight next." Elena said.

"That is an amazing idea. Lets watch a ridiculous love movie about a naïve girl that falls in love with a manipulative blood sucker that tricks her into believing that she's going insane!" I reply.

"Don't hate on Edward! He's gorgeous!"

     "Yeah yeah"

She ignored my last remark and put on Breaking Dawn.  I rolled my eyes as Edward and Bella kissed. Romance is so over rated, I thought to myself.

After the movie ended we went to the park to sketch. Well, I went to sketch, and El went to people watch. I pull out my sketch book and look for my desired victim...

I settled on the little old lady feeding the golden finches on the bench across the pavement from us. I started with the bench and worked my way up to her glasses. I look up from my sketch to see Elena practically drooling over a tall young man showing off his dashing smile.

His hair was dark, showing bright highlights of navy blue. He had a perfect nose and eyebrows that added to his chiseled jawline. His eyes shown like emeralds dancing in a lake of gold, there being specks of green in his gilded eyes. He looked back, their eyes meeting and holding the gaze as if they both fell into a trance. I watch in disgust as he takes a step forward, his lips slightly parted, and El standing, still holding his gaze.

They walk towards each other at a slow, yet brisk pace. As they meet in the middle of the park, they are about 5 inches apart. They lean in, and at that moment a skater goes quickly past the old woman, scaring the finches. They flew up in a flock of yellow surrounding them in a swirl of color as their lips came together.

I stare in horror as my best friend found love at first sight.

I quickly avert my eyes to avoid puking and get back to my sketch. As I add the final details to the birds, I see out of the corner of my eye, El and her new friend walking towards me.

"Hey Hannah, this is Aiden" she says.

"Hello Aiden, I'm Hannah" I said with a smile. Being not half a park away I can see the little imperfections in his face. He's still beautiful, but up close I can see all of the small scars across his forehead and cheeks. 'I wonder if Nico has any scars' I wondered. 'Or maybe some tattoos, nah, he doesn't seem like the type'

As my my mind drifts away from El and Aiden my vision gets foggy and i fall asleep on the bench. I open my eyes in the in a field and I immediately recognize it as the literal field of my dreams. My surroundings are a little different. The forest seems to have less life, not dead, just fading. Of course with my curiosity I walk towards it a little apprehensive.
