"ELIJAH" The sound of his father shouting his name, what a lovely way to wake up. Hesitantly Elijiah opens his eyes to his pitch black room. He lifts his head with an annoyed expression, then drops his head back on the pillow of his bed. His dark, long, wavy hair falling over his eyes. He raises his hands and claps three times which proceeds to open the large windows of the room lighting it up. As the room is lit it is shown to be huge, with large black walls with a singular red wall along the back of the room. The bed he was sleeping on was in the center of the relatively empty room along the red wall. The tall open room had dark hardwood floors. The bedroom leads into a beautiful stonewall bathroom. The large windows now fully open, overlook the small town Elijah Montgomery and his family live in. Well to be honest they don't just live in it they own the majority of the town. As Elijah gets up he presses a button on his open laptop sitting on his black wooden desk sitting a few feet away from his bed. The computer begins playing a beautiful melody on a piano. Elijah walks very carelessly into the bathroom. We see he is not wearing a shirt but some black sweatpants banded around his waist. His wavy dark hair is messy atop his head, but as he moves it out of his eyes we see they are a beautiful hazel. His pale skin is contrasted by the red of his lips.Elijah's left ear is pierced and currently contains a small hoop earring. Splashing some cold water on his face, Elijah awakens himself. He looks up into the mirror above his sink on the marble countertop. He looks at himself to see his slightly puffy eyes, and his sharply crafted face. He reached over to a little cup next to the white ceramic sink to pull out a long, light blue toothbrush, and a thin tube of toothpaste. He begins brushing but is interrupted when-
"ELI, DID I OR DID I NOT TELL YOU YOU WAKE UP?"
Elijah's father storms into his room in a fit of rage. He marches in expecting to see his son asleep, as is mildly shocked to see him up and well as he spins around to meet his eyes.
"Morning, Dad" he says is a raspy, but soft, deep voice. He spits out his mouth of toothpaste and wipes the excess off his mouth with a small white towel. Elijah slips into a thin black shirt hanging on the wall next to his shower.
His father stands in both annoyance and disbelief as he watches his son casually walk towards him, then swerve around him to exit the room. Elijah nonchalantly walks down the grand stairs and into the kitchen. He casually pours himself a glass whiskey, and sips it as he leans against the counter waiting for his father. And like clockwork his father rolls in still in a fit of anger and walks right up to Elijiah and looks at him very intently.
"You must make things harder than they are, mustn't you." His father Bruce, is essentially just an older version of Elijiah, with the same hazel eyes, dark wavy hair, and a softer, more aged version of his son's sharp face.
"Well wouldn't you agree it's more fun." he says with a bent expression as though he was expecting his father to laugh. Elijah and his father have been fighting for years ever since his mother left them. Elijah was tired and did not feel like having the same gruelling conversation as he does every morning. He stands up and begins to walk past his father, his father continues to talk to him but it is almost as though he was on mute. Elijah struts away and takes a sip from the glass of whiskey still in his hand. He grabs his keys off of the small table next to the door, slips on some white converse and downs the last of his whiskey before he heads out the door. He casually hops down the stairs of his large house and into his red convertible at the end of the drive.
As he drives away, he hears his father call out, "ELIJAH COME BACK."
Turning the volume knob of his stereo, classical piano music begins to play once again. He continues to drive down the road of his neighborhood passing the large old houses on one side and the beautiful greenery on the other, until he finally turns and sees the ocean. He parks his car at the side of the pier then gets out and begins to walk along it feeling the warmth of the sun on his arms and face. He proceeds to walk down onto the beach and sits in the middle of it. He stared out into the ocean for what seemed like hours thinking about where everything went wrong. Elijah and his mother used to sit on the beach and watch the water together, but now he stills alone. He watches with an emotionless expression until a single tear is shed from his eye. The tear rolled down off of chin and onto his arms which were encompassing his knees as they were bent toward his chest. Finally Elijiah collapses into the sand and lies motionless reminiscing about a time when his family was happy. He would come home from school and his mother would be there waiting from him with a snack and a hug. His father would come home an hour or so later and would be greeted by a kiss from his mother and a hug from him. They would spend the night together and they had their own problems but they were happy. He continued to lay motionless with his eyes closed.
'Cut it out' Elijah thinks to himself. 'She left us, okay?'
He abruptly sits up to snap himself out of his reminiscent state. Out of the corner of his eye he sees something move. He whips his read around and sees a girl, wearing a beige-ish top and grey pants. It is hard to really see what she looks like as she almost immediately begins to bike away. He follows the blurred figure of her with his eyes. After the girl is out of view he turns back to the ocean. He continues to sit for a while just watching the sun. Some time passes so he decides to get up, he slowly stands up and begins to walk to the pier. As he walks up he hears the sounds of laughter and voices. He turns to look and sees a group of three or four girls staring back at him. He meets the eyes of the one in the middle. She had long straight dark brown hair, brown skin, and extremely light brown eyes, almost a yellow. She smiled at him and flirtily waved but he reciprocated neither and he neither cared nor was in the mood to talk to anyone. He turned back facing forward and continued on with his trek. He walks along the pier and glances into each of the shops as he passes them, but only one catches his attention. He stops and swings open the door of a music shop. The store is filled to the brim with guitars, violins, cellos, pianos, drums and so much more. Elijah's face lit up with joy as he half smiled. He walked over to the piano and studied it. He ran his fingers over the top of it then finally slid onto the seat. Lightly placing his fingers over the keys he smiles then takes a deep breath, and closes his eyes. He hits his first note and pauses before beginning to play, effortlessly, beautifully, and freely. On and on he plays and he is so graceful and peaceful. After playing forever he slowly brings the music to a halt. He sits and looks at the keys, he remembers his mother and how she taught him to play. He slowly stands, the smile on his face quickly fades and he takes a breath out. He walks heavily out of the shop. He walks out of the shop and slips into a thin ally between the music store and another store. He proceeds to pull out his pack of cigarettes and a lighter. He begins to smoke as he leans against the wall of the ally. One hand in his pocket, and the other holding the cigarette he takes a few puffs then rests his head back against the wall. As he's looking up into the street he sees something quickly pass between the two stores. Elijah quickly emerges from between the two stores to see the girl. He sees her same beige top, and grey pants from earlier. He looks around to find the girl and sees her on her bike only to be thrown off seconds later. In the blink of an eye, Elijah runs over to her as she lies motionless on the ground. He drops down, throws his cigarette aside, and immediately props her head up in his arms.
"Hey, hey are you okay?" Elijah asks the fear in his voice is coming through. The girl begins to open her eyes and as she looks up at him, he is mesmerized by her beauty. She regains her consciousness and begins looking around, her eyes slowly glance over to me, but her squinted eyes look away just as fast as they found me. She begins tapping around as though she's looking for something, but I suppose she found it because she grabs a pair of black framed round glasses and places them on her face. She looks over at my face again. He examines her fair, freckled face as he finds her beautiful bright green eyes, staring back into his own eyes. Elijah begins to usher her up, back onto her feet, he has his hands on her shoulders. He doesn't let go as if he is scared she will fall if he does.
"Yah. Yah, I'm fine, I think." There is a certain uncertainty in her soft words. She grips her wrist as Elijah noticed. He looked down at her wrist as she was doing the same.
"Your wrist. I think you sprained it. Let me take you to the doctor." He feels protective of her for some reason and as though he needs to make sure she's safe.
"It's fine really, I really ought to get home." she responds.
"I'll drive you. You really shouldn't be walking right now.....Please?." he responds. He smiles as attempt to gain her trust. He didn't want to leave her by herself. She remains quiet for a few moments as Elijah is transfixed on her.
"Here, how about this, we get coffee then you drive me home." her saying this knocks Elijah out of his trance and immediately makes his smiles. He lets go of her shoulders and steps back, increasing the distance between the two of them. He attempts to hide it though as he says. "I'm Elijah by the way"then he turns to point to a coffee shop she walked past earlier in the day.
"I'm Emery" she responded.
'Emery' he thought, 'What a beautiful name'. As they head off Elijah picks up Emery's backpack and is stunned as it was fairly heavy.
"What do you have in here?" He asked her in a sort of shocked voice. She remained silent and responded with a smirk half smile.
