First and Last Love

Part 4: Competition

A week later Tim, Moby, and Kate are all texting, like usual, in their group chat. Kate comes up with a brilliant idea and suggests that they should all hang out the upcoming weekend. Tim texts ", Sounds good!" Moby then texts "Yep tell me when and where and I'll be there." Tim is excited that he gets to hang out with Moby after school but is disappointed that they won't be alone together. Although Kate will be there he's sure that he'll be able to have a little fun. Tim then sees a text from Kate in him and her DMS. He presses on the notification confused on why she'd be texting him in DMS. The screen changes to Kate and Tim's DMS and he reads the message. The message says ", OMG TIM I am soooo excited to hang out with Moby this weekend." Tim begins feeling jealous which is odd for him. He responds ", Yessss so am I." Kate responds quickly ", OMG IM SO SORRY I FORGOT YOU WHERE COMING." Tim feels a bit angry but nothing much. He responds jokingly "Were* lmao." Kate responds ", omg stop being such a grammar nazi 🙄." Tim's mood is a bitten lightened up but is still confused about how she could forget that fast. Tim then navigates to his favorite app, TokTik, to pass the time. A few minutes later a message appears at the top of his screen. He reads it and it says, "Omg Tim I need to tell you something." He clicks on the notification and responds, "What is it 😱?" He sees the three dots jumping up and down hoping she isn't gonna say what she thinks she will. The message sends and his worst fear had come true. The message reads, "I think I have a crush on Moby!" Tim's heart drops, he can believe that his best friend likes the same person that he does. He feels sad but also angry with a splash of jealousy. Tim thinks about the message not knowing how to respond. He then responds "OMG that's so crazy!" Tim does think it's crazy, but not in a good way. Kate then responds, "YESS fr that's why I'm so excited to see him this weekend hopefully we might do a Lil smth ;)." Tim looks at the message with and intense hate. That was Tim's plan not Kate's how dare she. He thinks about what he's thinking and remembers that Kate and him are best friends. He feels like he shouldn't let it get to him, he's sure that Moby wouldn't go for HER. He feels a bit less angry and a little more confident. Tim texts Kate back saying, "Alright well I'm tired so I'm gonna go to sleep goodnight, Katee." Kate responds, "You never go to sleep this early but ok! Goodnight Tim sleep well <3" Tim looks at his clock and realized it is pretty early it's only 8:00 p.m. He just needed an excuse to end the conversation. He couldn't bear the fact that he had competition. Not just any ordinary competition, but competition with his best friend. Tim thinks to himself about the situation. He could be petty and tell Moby, or he could be a good friend and keep his mouth shut. Tim opens TokTik and vegans scrolling through. After an hour or two he begins to drift off to sleep and realizes, so he closes all of his apps, plugs in his phone, and turns it off. He sets it down on his nightstand and lays his head down on his pillow. He stares up at his ceiling and his head sinks in his pillow. He rests his hands on his stomach and stares up. All he can think about is Kate liking Moby. He shits his eyes and falls asleep. Tim hears that same obnoxious alarm and wakes up. He swings his arm and slaps the top which stops the beeping. Tim reluctantly sits up and opens his eyes. He realizes he still has his headphones in but no music is playing. He regains his thoughts and steps out of his bed. He clumsily walks to his bathroom to do his normal morning stuff. Tim hates doing his stupid morning stuff for school but he is glad it's his last year. He's 18 and it's the second semester of senior year. He can't wait till the school year ends. He opens the bathroom drawers and pulls out his toothbrush and toothpaste. He brushes his teeth and dozed off into space. He thinks about what he and Moby will do when he gets to his house. He can't wait for it. Tim then remembers Kate. He still can't believe they have a crush on the same person. He finishes up everything and gets on the bus. He sees Kate sitting down and she waves at him. He begins walking over to the seat and sits down. He says good morning with a  blank and dull expression. Kate says good morning back happily. A few minutes later they arrive at school and continue the day. After 6th period in the halls, he sees Moby and Kate walking together. It seems to look like they are flirting. Tim is enraged. He can't believe this is happening. "Oh just you wait Kate, just you wait..." he thinks to himself.
