"All aboard! All aboard! Land of Nowhere to California will be leaving in three minutes!" I looked behind me to see around a hundred people, women and men, children and elderly, boarding the train. I thanked the ticket salesman and ran over to the back of the line, hopeful to get a window seat. (note: I had no idea what to name the place that she was living in now, as it didn't matter in the storyline.)
Buzz. Buzz. Buzz.
I pulled my phone out of my pocket and turned it on, grinning at the text I received.

?: MABEL!
I walked onto the train behind some old woman, walking slow as day. I mentally cursed at myself and told myself to calm down and be patient, that a little old lady wouldn't change how fast I got there.
"Tickets, please," I stopped at the conductor, handing him my ticket. Examining it, he hole-punched it and handed it back to me before calling the next person. I kept walking and looked around, light gray modern-looking seats and black/gray carpet followed with rose gold metal supports with two giant bright fluorescent lights on the ceiling.
Overall, it was a very pretty modern/contemporary design. (image of the train interior above)
"Excuse me, ma'am," A raspy voice poked my shoulder as I sat down. Just as I got comfy.
I looked behind me to see the old lady that was in front of me, distress clear on her face. I smiled sweetly at her, hiding the annoyance in my face. I looked around and noticed there was no more empty seats. Deciding to be a good samaritan, I moved my bag off of the seat next to me and placed it on my lap to let her sit.
-------------------------
About 5 hours had passed, and it turns out the old lady wasn't that bad to talk to. She had many stories about her travels, dreams about visiting every place in the world. I didn't want to be the one to burst her bubble, but she should've dreamed about that long ago."Mabel?" I opened my eyes and turned my head to the side, facing the old lady.
"Yes, Agnis?"
"What's it like? You know, being young?" She turned away from me, staring at her hands with some sort of.. loss in her eyes.. "I've forgotten what it's like.."
"Well, being young.. Has a lot of challenges. Trying to live up to your parents expectations, sometimes not even having parents. That's hard too. There's other things like planning the future. When you're a kid, you don't know what your future is going to be like. You can have dreams, but those dreams might not even come true. You'll just be chasing after something you'll never have," I blinked back the tears in my eyes, wiping the runny, burning nose I was having.
"Being young, you can be carefree. You can just be you, discover yourself, discover who you are and grow up to be something amazing. Or you can end up like me, chasing after dreams that'll never come true with no parents. Nobody to teach right or wrong. Having parents is like receiving a blessing, you'll appreciate it until it's gone or not appreciate it and wish you had it again. That is why I appreciate what I have and stop wishing I had things, because dreams are useless if you know they won't come true."
"That's deep," She said after a moment, processing what I said. I don't even know what I said. I guess I was just speaking from my heart.
