Fountain lovers (A Kaemaki au)

I saw you by the fountain

(Notes before the story begins!
For most of the story you are in the pov of maki)

I woke up to any other day.
We had been in the killing game for atleast a week or so now.
I'm actually surprised it's gone on this long.
I guess it's all thanks to Kaede.
She's been keeping everyone safe.
I really don't know what we'd do without her.

I get out of bed and get ready to start the day.
I put on my usual uniform and put my hair neatly into low pigtails.

I step out of my dorm and make my way to get breakfast.

Ever since the killing game started Kaede was always there for everyone. To be honest it kind of made me feel bad. I felt like I wasn't doing enough. I felt like maybe I should be repaying her in some way. I couldn't put my finger on what exactly that would be though.

"Goodmorning Maki!"

My thoughts are interrupted with a cheerful voice heading my way.

I look up from staring at the ground.
It's Kaede?
She never comes to greet me, this is strange.

"Good morning." I reply.

"Wanna walk to breakfast together?"

"Sure I guess..."

I felt myself wanting to make eye contact.
But I tried to refuse doing so to not make things awkward.
As I focus my vision again and pay more attention to what's going on, I realize Kaede looks a bit different today.

"Nice pin."

"Oh uhh thank you! Angie made it for me!"

On her vest Kaede wore a heart shaped pin with the bisexual flag on it.
Honestly I would've never guessed she would've been bi.
Maybe it's just the energy she gives off? I'm not sure.
It's just so nice and cheerful, so it reminds me more of a straight persons.
Not that her energy is bad of course.
Although it can be a tad annoying occasionally.

We walk into the breakfast room together.
We grab our food then part separate ways.

It's Kaedes routine to eat meals with shuichi.
It honestly seems like wherever he goes she goes.
It's kind of annoying.

I usually eat alone since I don't really have any friends.
I find the idea of making friends in this situation to be foolish.
You never know when someone might try to kill you.
Plus it's not like anyone here would like to get to know me anyway.

I take my food and decide to eat somewhere different for a change. I walk outside and decide to look around the back of the school.
There I find a peaceful fountain.
Around it is a simple path with flowers of all kinds surrounding the area.
Nice and quiet.
I decide it would be the perfect spot to eat so I sit on the edge.

After I finish my meal I set it down beside the fountain.

This was beautiful.
So relaxing and calming.
Not to mention it was just the right temperature today.
But I couldn't help but feel something missing.
I wish I had someone to share this spot with.
It can be sad being alone for so long.

I hear giggling from around the corner of the building.
I turn my head to see Shuichi and Kaede walking together.
But for whatever reason I can't take my eyes off of Kaede.
Her hair shines in the sunlight and her eyes sparkle like amethyst.
Her lips are a rosy pink and her smile...
One look at her smile could instantly make you fall.
