Pawblo was at the bazaar, haggling with a pawn shop owner. It appeared that he was trying to scam him out of a deal.
"Come on! This is like new! I should be payed double for this!" He slammed his fist on the counter. The small man moved his own goggles in inspection. "Pawblo, please. Business is business. 100 dropnoids. Take it or leave it." The small man giggled in devilish delight.
The ventrexian grumbled as he held out his hand. The dropnoids were dropped onto it. He stormed off angrily, with his backpack in tow. "Sweet deals my ass, Clarence!", he yelled as he stormed off into the crowd.
As he walked, he noticed a familiar ventrexian boy walking towards him. "Little Cato?" The boy responded to the name and walked faster. "Hey, Pawblo! I went to where you lived, but you weren't there. I figured you would be around here." Pawblo nodded. "Well, yeah. It's my job. To be busy." He gripped the strap of his backpack.
Pawblo and Little Cato walked in the crowd of the bazaar together. "How have you been, Pawblo?" The adult ventrexian questioned the little one's question. "We just met yesterday, kid. So pretty much the same." He eyed the people around them, making sure to stick close to Little Cato. Pawblo turned to see him obediently following him, and smiling.
It made him smile. But only a little.
As they arrived back to Pawblo's home, Little Cato felt a buzz on his wrist communicator again, just like the day before. He tapped it, revealing his father on the other end of the line. "Hello? Dad?"
"Little Cato? Where are you?? You left breakfast in a rush." Avocato was rubbing his eyes in stress.
"I'm alright, Dad. Just hanging out with my friend." Little Cato noticed Pawblo let out a chuckle.
"Who just laughed? Was it him? Put it on speaker." Avocato felt a little off, hearing whoever this guy was laugh. Little Cato grumbled, and obliged. "Okay." He walked over to Pawblo and tugged on his arm. "Hey, Pawblo. My Dad wants to talk with you." The ventrexian man rolled his eyes and leaned in. "Uh...hey there."
Avocato was a little surprised. And a little suspicious hearing such a mature voice on the other end. "Um...who are you?"
"I'm Pawblo. Your kid's...friend? Yeah." He chuckled nervously. This was a little awkward. Avocato was trying to process this on his end, but shook his worries away. He trusted his own son.
"Is he okay? He better be okay, or I will send a full batallion to your doorstep. You hear me?" He said it in a stern tone to set the message straight.
Pawblo was confused. There was no way Little Cato's dad could be able to do that. He played along with it. "Um...okay. Well, you have my word. Your son's safe." Little Cato grinned. "See, Dad? I'm fine. I'll be home later. Have a good day at work!"
"Little Cato—!"
The line was cut. Little Cato chuckled. "That's my Dad for you." Pawblo tilted his head. "Who IS your Dad, exactly?" The young boy dodged the question. "Let's, uh...not talk about that. What are you gonna do today?"
Pawblo took notice of him avoiding the question, but ignored it. "Same as usual. You're free to watch and talk with me. No touching anything, though." The boy nodded his head in confirmation.
He would have to see what this newfound friendship with the kid would lead to.
