Haeyoon woke up to the sound of her alarm. She opened her eyes and reached to turn it off.

"What day is it?" she mumbled as she rubbed her eyes. She looked at her phone and saw that it was Saturday.

"Welp, time to make breakfast." Haeyoon swung her feet off the bed and made her way towards the kitchen. Before she stepped in there, she opened Jisoo's bedroom door to take a peek at her sleeping mother. When Haeyoon picked her up last night, Jisoo seemed drunk and tired. She also had a small smell of cigarettes on her.

"Momma, you can't keep smoking on the job." Haeyoon said, grabbing her mother's arm and walking. "But Haeyoonie, I was getting sleepy, and Mister Manager said it was okay." Haeyoon rolled her eyes and made a note to talk to that manager soon

Haeyoon smiled at the thought as she closed the bedroom door and walked into the kitchen. It was Saturday, and Saturday was French toast day.

She opened the cabinet and got out cinnamon and vanilla extract. Then she opened the refrigerator and pulled out the gallon of milk and the carton of eggs. Haeyoon placed a pan on the stove and dropped a bit of butter inside. She turned on the stove and mixed her ingredients.

As she was dipping the bread slices inside of the mixture, Haeyoon thought of her father. She remembered when he woke her up early Saturday morning to make French toast. Haeyoon remembered when she first made the recipe, her bread got stuck onto the pan.

"Daddy, why is it stuck?" she asked, trying to pick the soaked bread with the spatula. Her father laughed. "I think we forgot to melt the butter inside of the pan."

"How is it funny? We made a mistake!"

Her father chuckled, patting his daughter's head. "It's because I did the same thing when I was your age, cooking this with my dad. I guess it runs in the family!"

Haeyoon soon smiled and laughed. Then the duo continued on making the recipe.

About 15 minutes later, Haeyoon placed a plate of hot and steaming French toast on top of the small dining table. She got out the syrup from the cupboard and placed it next to the French toast. Then she went to her mother's door and knocked.

"Momma, breakfast is ready!" Haeyoon shouted. She heard Jisoo yawning and climbing out of the bed. Haeyoon grabbed two paper plates and sat down at the table, placing one plate in front her her and the other in front of Jisoo's chair.

"Did you make breakfast, Haeyoonie?" Jisoo said, sitting at the table. "Of course I did, Momma." Haeyoon smiled, "I make it every Saturday!"

Jisoo piled her plate with three slices of French toast and poured syrup all over them. Haeyoon stood up and went to grab two forks. She gave one to Jisoo and sat back down.

Jisoo cut a piece of the bread and put it inside of her mouth. She smiled. "It's so delicious, Haeyoonie; reminds me of when your father used to make it!"

"I'm glad you like it." Haeyoon beamed. A few minutes later, the two finished their meal. Haeyoon off the table and placed all the dishes inside of the sink. "Hey Momma,"

"Yes Hayoonie?" Jisoo said, lighting up a cigarette. "Sojung invited me to go to a party with her tonight. Can I go?"

"Who's Sojung?"

"My friend, Momma. The tiny girl with the light brown hair."

"Oh yeah, her." Jisoo cleared her throat. "I'll let you go, but you need to complete all of your homework first."

"Yes ma'am."

"That's my Hayoonie."

After she dropped Jisoo off at worked, Haeyoon went back home and looked through her closet to figure out what she was going to wear for the party.

But the only problem was that she didn't own anything fancy. Her closet was filled with ripped jeans and old t-shirts. Haeyoon and her mom couldn't afford any formal clothes.

After 15 minutes, Haeyoon groaned and flopped onto her bed. "What am I gonna wear to this stupid party?"

Haeyoon was silent, looking up at the dirty ceiling until she thought of an idea. She went on her phone and opened the phone app. She found Sojung's name and called her.

"Hello?" her friend groggily said. "Hey Sojung, did I wake you up?"

"No, I was already awake." Sojung replied, yawning. Haeyoon laughed. "I'm having a little trouble finding an outfit for the party tonight, so could I drop by your house and borrow one of your outfits?"

"Why didn't you say something earlier? Of course you can!" Sojung beamed. "Thank you so much! I'll be there in about 10 minutes."

"Okay! See you later!" Haeyoon hung up the phone. She got off the bed and slipped on some old Nike sneakers and a red jacket. She stuffed her keys into her jacket pocket and went out the apartment, locking the door.

After a short bus ride, Haeyoon made it into Sojung's neighborhood. The houses in the neighborhood were all the same; only difference was the yards in the front.

Haeyoon walked through the neighborhood until she saw a house with a large cherry blossom tree in the front. The Kwon Residence.

Haeyoon ranged the doorbell and waited until someone opened the door. It was Sojung. She was wearing a sparkly, tight baby blue dress that stopped above her knees. Her light brown hair was in a high ponytail.

"Oh my gosh, you look so pretty Sojung!" Haeyoon beamed. Sojung blushed. "Thank you girl!" Then she grabbed Haeyoon's arm. "Come on, the party starts in 2 hours; we need to get you ready!"

Sojung and Haeyoon had been friends since their first year of high school. Sojung was the pretty and popular girl, while Haeyoon was the shy and nerdy girl. They first interacted when Sojung sat next to Haeyoon at lunch.

"Why are you sitting by yourself?" Sojung asked the girl. Haeyoon continued chewing her food. "I just don't wanna sit next to anybody, and plus, I don't have any friends." She wish she kept that last part to herself.

"You don't have friends? I can be your first one!" Sojung held out her hand. "I'm Kown Sojung!" The shy girl looked at the beaming girl's hand. Then she shook it and smiled.

"I'm Lee Haeyoon."

The memory of how they became friends played inside Haeyoon's head. She didn't even notice that Sojung was calling her name. "Earth to Lee Haeyoon!"

Haeyoon shook her head. "Sorry, I got lost in thought." "It's okay! Just take a look in the mirror!"

Haeyoon looked herself in the mirror and gasped at her reflection. She was fitted into a flowing white dress and her black hair was in a tight bun. She didn't have a lot of makeup on, but there was a small hint of blush on her cheeks, pink lipgloss, and light brown eyeshadow.

"I look so different." Haeyoon said. Sojung squealed. "That means I did a good job!" She looked at her phone and saw it was 6:30 pm. "Come on, let's make our way to the party!"

Haeyoon smiled and nodded.

"You lead the way."
