The first iteration of Shiori's hero costume! Now, I do kinda hate it, but he's trying to blend in so just let him have his emo phase.

-----------------------------------------------

Sir Nighteye was not helping Midoriya be less suspicious of Shiori. Not only did he announce to practically the whole world that Shiori had a I.R.Q.L but he also mentioned that 'transformation quirks like that a rare and very useful'.

So now one of Shiori's classmates was dangerously close to knowing literally everything about him. Shiori sighed and splashed some water in his face. He stared at his reflection and wondered if there was even a purpose in having a hero suit. He didn't want to be the patrol the city and keep it safe type of hero in the first place. That's why he interned with Nighteye in the first place.

"Yamada, we're going on patrol!" Mirio called through the bathroom door. "Coming!" The first year called back, trying to sound excited.

He didn't miss the calculating look Midoriya gave him as he suited up, no doubt searching his costume for any clues about Shiori's quirk. He was out of luck though as his classmate had tried really hard not to reveal anything about his quirk through his outfit.

"So, do you have a hero name picked out yet?" Mirio asked as he finished messing with his cape.

"I'm just going with 'Kei' for now." Shiori said with a shrug "I'm not exactly looking to be the no.1 hero so I don't need a flashy name or anything.". Mirio nodded understandingly and smiled. "I can't wait to see your quirk in action! If Sir thought it was useful it has to be good!" he added.

"You wont be seeing his quirk at all." Nighteye interrupted "He's not permitted to go on regular patrol like you are, so he'll be following along today. It'll be better for you to know that someone's always watching out for you.".

----- ------ ------ ----- ------ ------ ------ ------

Patrol was boring. Okay, maybe Mirio and Midoriya were having more fun but from Shiori's perspective he was just flying behind two heroes waiting for something to happen. They hadn't encountered any villains yet and there had been no disasters.

Suddenly, the two came to a stop just outside and alleyway. Shiori flew off the roof down to a ledge of the building next to listen in on the conversation. It looked like a white haired girl had bumped into Midoriya while running.

"Are you alright? Can you stand?" Midoriya asked, dropping to his knees to help the trembling girl up. "Don't go causing problems for heroes." A voice called out from the shadows. Shiori couldn't help but startle at the sight of exactly who they were looking for. Chisaki Kai.

"I apologize for my daughter, she likes to run around and often ends up hurting herself." Chisaki said, looking dead eyed at the terrified looking little girl. Mirio assessed the situation quickly and threw Midoriya's hood over his face to protect his identity.

"Your hood slipped off again. Maybe the size is off." Lemillion said with a grin. Chisaki cleared his throat. "Its my first time seeing you heroes." He said, looking between the two. Mirio smiled bashfully.

"Is that so? We're still pretty new, so we're a little nervous!" He said, holding the back of his neck. "What agency are you with?" Chisaki asked in a rather rushed tone. Mirio held his hands out immediately. "Oh no, we're students. It would be presumptuous to identify with an agency already!". Chisaki nodded curtly and his 'daughter' started whimpering.

"D-don't go!" She whispered desperately. Shiori could barely hear her from his 'bird's eye view'. The sinking feeling he had only worsened. If either of them said something wrong, they could become Chisaki's next targets.

"Um, your daughter seems a little scared..." Midoriya said, breaking the silence. For a second Mirio looked like he was going to smack some sense into his junior, but he quickly collected himself. Chisaki's eye narrowed at the girl's trembling form.

"She falls often-" "For a child to be shaking like this and not making a sound," Midoriya interrupted "I don't think that's normal.". He stared right at the yakuza as he said that. Once again, Mirio looked like he was going to smack Midoriya upside the head, even if it was just for a split second. Shiori had to agree with his classmate though, this wasn't normal. Who was this girl? They had no information saying Chisaki had a daughter and she was covered in bandages. No kid is that clumsy.

"You shouldn't judge other families off your 'normal'." Chisaki said, leading the heroes into an alley. "Children are like that, they honestly think..." He trailed off, but the look he sent the little girl said everything he didn't. She launched herself off of Midoriya and towards Chisaki, shocking everyone. "Sorry for making you listen to my problems, heroes. Good luck with your patrol.".

With that, they began to fade into the darkness of the alley. Chisaki's words played over and over in Shiori's head. 'You shouldn't judge other families off your 'normal'.'. That encounter may not have been Midoriya or Mirio's normal, but it was Shiori's.

The image of a white haired child trembling, gripping onto any escape from their parent was all too familiar. The sense of deja vu the teen got watching that was horrific. Just replace the heroes with his teacher or friend's parent and that scene had played out hundreds of times. Shiori's vision blurred before he even realized he was crying. And yes, birds can cry.

Once Chisaki and the little girl were out of earshot, Midoriya built up the courage to speak. "Kei," He began, his voice a hoarse whisper "I know you're watching us. Follow them.". The pair of heroes stood in silence, as if waiting for a response, so Shiori realized he should give them one.

He flew up to the roof and shifted quickly, careful not to be noticed by anyone on the ground. He pulled a scrap of paper out of his pocket and a pen alongside it. He wrote a quick 'I'll follow them until they settle somewhere for more than an hour, then I'll return to the agency.'. The boy went to crumple it up but before he did he turned the note over and added something. 'Just remember I don't have a hero license and I'm not allowed to intervene unless something really bad happens'.

With that, he shifted, threw the crumpled up piece of paper down and flew off, over the building to be even less noticeable. It didn't take long for him to catch sight of the pair again.
